2024-08-27[lldb] Turn lldb_private::Status into a value type. (#106163)Adrian Prantl
This patch removes all of the Set.* methods from Status. This cleanup is part of a series of patches that make it harder use the anti-pattern of keeping a long-lives Status object around and updating it while dropping any errors it contains on the floor. This patch is largely NFC, the more interesting next steps this enables is to: 1. remove Status.Clear() 2. assert that Status::operator=() never overwrites an error 3. remove Status::operator=() Note that step (2) will bring 90% of the benefits for users, and step (3) will dramatically clean up the error handling code in various places. In the end my goal is to convert all APIs that are of the form ` ResultTy DoFoo(Status& error) ` to ` llvm::Expected<ResultTy> DoFoo() ` How to read this patch? The interesting changes are in Status.h and Status.cpp, all other changes are mostly ` perl -pi -e 's/\.SetErrorString/ = Status::FromErrorString/g' $(git grep -l SetErrorString lldb/source) ` plus the occasional manual cleanup.
2023-01-09Return a shared_ptr from ScratchTypeSystemClang::GetForTarget()Adrian Prantl
The current interface theoretically could lead to a use-after-free when a client holds on to the returned pointer. Fix this by returning a shared_ptr to the scratch typesystem. rdar://103619233 Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D141100
2022-02-03[lldb] Rename Logging.h to LLDBLog.h and clean up includesPavel Labath
Most of our code was including Log.h even though that is not where the "lldb" log channel is defined (Log.h defines the generic logging infrastructure). This worked because Log.h included Logging.h, even though it should. After the recent refactor, it became impossible the two files include each other in this direction (the opposite inclusion is needed), so this patch removes the workaround that was put in place and cleans up all files to include the right thing. It also renames the file to LLDBLog to better reflect its purpose.

2020-10-23[lldb] Redesign Target::GetUtilityFunctionForLanguage APIJonas Devlieghere
This patch redesigns the Target::GetUtilityFunctionForLanguage API: - Use a unique_ptr instead of a raw pointer for the return type. - Wrap the result in an llvm::Expected instead of using a Status object as an I/O parameter. - Combine the action of "getting" and "installing" the UtilityFunction as they always get called together. - Pass std::strings instead of const char* and std::move them where appropriate. There's more room for improvement but I think this tackles the most prevalent issues with the current API. Differential revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D90011

2020-01-24[lldb][NFC] Fix all formatting errors in .cpp file headersRaphael Isemann
Summary: A *.cpp file header in LLDB (and in LLDB) should like this: ``` //===-- TestUtilities.cpp -------------------------------------------------===// ``` However in LLDB most of our source files have arbitrary changes to this format and these changes are spreading through LLDB as folks usually just use the existing source files as templates for their new files (most notably the unnecessary editor language indicator `-*- C++ -*-` is spreading and in every review someone is pointing out that this is wrong, resulting in people pointing out that this is done in the same way in other files). This patch removes most of these inconsistencies including the editor language indicators, all the different missing/additional '-' characters, files that center the file name, missing trailing `===//` (mostly caused by clang-format breaking the line). 2020-01-23[lldb][NFC] Rename ClangASTContext to TypeSystemClangRaphael Isemann
Summary: This commit renames ClangASTContext to TypeSystemClang to better reflect what this class is actually supposed to do (implement the TypeSystem interface for Clang). It also gets rid of the very confusing situation that we have both a `clang::ASTContext` and a `ClangASTContext` in clang (which sometimes causes Clang people to think I'm fiddling with Clang's ASTContext when I'm actually just doing LLDB work). I also have plans to potentially have multiple clang::ASTContext instances associated with one ClangASTContext so the ASTContext naming will then become even more confusing to people. 2019-12-12[Target] Remove Target::GetScratchClangASTContextAlex Langford

2019-09-07Long timeouts for the MacOSX SystemRuntime plugins under ASAN; else quick.Jason Molenda
In April via r357829, Adrian unified timeouts across lldb and set the default value high so that we wouldn't get timeouts on ASAN bots that were running under load. The library that the MacOSX SystemRuntime has functions that need to take a lock, and if that lock is held already, those functions will never complete; we're seeing the 15 second timeout being hit with inferiors that are doing a lot of enqueuing and dequeuing of libdispatch work items causing this deadlocking behavior. This patch reverts to a very short timeout for these SystemRuntime function calls, given the behavior of this library that they are calling into. When lldb is built with AddressSanitizer enabled, they will use the default 15 second timeout. tl;dr: this reverts to the previous timeouts for these SystemRuntime inf func calls. <rdar://problem/54538149> llvm-svn: 371280
2019-07-24[Logging] Replace Log::Printf with LLDB_LOG macro (NFC)Jonas Devlieghere
This patch replaces explicit calls to log::Printf with the new LLDB_LOGF macro. The macro is similar to LLDB_LOG but supports printf-style format strings, instead of formatv-style format strings. So instead of writing: if (log) log->Printf("%s\n", str); You'd write: LLDB_LOG(log, "%s\n", str); This change was done mechanically with the command below. I replaced the spurious if-checks with vim, since I know how to do multi-line replacements with it. find . -type f -name '*.cpp' -exec \ sed -i '' -E 's/log->Printf\(/LLDB_LOGF\(log, /g' "{}" + Differential revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D65128 llvm-svn: 366936

2019-04-05Unify random timeouts throughout LLDB and make them configurable.Adrian Prantl
Since these timeouts guard against catastrophic error in debugserver, I also increased all of them to the maximum value among them. The motivation for this test was the observation that an asanified LLDB would often exhibit seemingly random test failures that could be traced back to debugserver packets getting out of sync. With this path applied I can no longer reproduce the one particular failure mode that I was investigating. rdar://problem/49441261 Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D60340 llvm-svn: 357829

Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM project under our new license, so you will see that the license headers include that license only. Some of our contributors have contributed code under our old license, and accordingly, we have retained a copy of our old license notice in the top-level files in each project and repository. llvm-svn: 351636

2018-08-29Don't cancel the current IOHandler when we push a handler for an utility ↵Raphael Isemann
function run. Summary: D48465 is currently blocked by the fact that tab-completing the first expression is deadlocking LLDB. The reason for this deadlock is that when we push the ProcessIO handler for reading the Objective-C runtime information from the executable (which is triggered when we parse the an expression for the first time), the IOHandler can't be pushed as the Editline::Cancel method is deadlocking. The deadlock in Editline is coming from the m_output_mutex, which is locked before we go into tab completion. Even without this lock, calling Cancel on Editline will mean that Editline cleans up behind itself and deletes the current user-input, which is screws up the console when we are tab-completing at the same time. I think for now the most reasonable way of fixing this is to just not call Cancel on the current IOHandler when we push the IOHandler for running an internal utility function. As we can't really write unit tests for IOHandler itself (due to the hard dependency on an initialized Debugger including all its global state) and Editline completion is currently also not really testable in an automatic fashion, the test for this has to be that the expression command completion in D48465 doesn't fail when requesting completion the first time. A more precise test plan for this is: 1. Apply D48465. 2. Start lldb and break in some function. 3. Type `expr foo` and press tab to request completion. 4. Without this patch, we deadlock and LLDB stops responding. I'll provide an actual unit test for this once I got around and made the IOHandler code testable, but for now unblocking D48465 is more critical. Thanks to Jim for helping me debugging this. 2017-05-12Rename Error -> Status.Zachary Turner
This renames the LLDB error class to Status, as discussed on the lldb-dev mailing list. A change of this magnitude cannot easily be done without find and replace, but that has potential to catch unwanted occurrences of common strings such as "Error". 2016-09-06*** This commit represents a complete reformatting of the LLDB source codeKate Stone
*** to conform to clang-format’s LLVM style. This kind of mass change has *** two obvious implications: Firstly, merging this particular commit into a downstream fork may be a huge effort. Alternatively, it may be worth merging all changes up to this commit, performing the same reformatting operation locally, and then discarding the merge for this particular commit. The commands used to accomplish this reformatting were as follows (with current working directory as the root of the repository): find . \( -iname "*.c" -or -iname "*.cpp" -or -iname "*.h" -or -iname "*.mm" \) -exec clang-format -i {} + find . -iname "*.py" -exec autopep8 --in-place --aggressive --aggressive {} + ; The version of clang-format used was 3.9.0, and autopep8 was 1.2.4. 2016-05-18remove use of Mutex in favour of std::{,recursive_}mutexSaleem Abdulrasool
This is a pretty straightforward first pass over removing a number of uses of Mutex in favor of std::mutex or std::recursive_mutex. The problem is that there are interfaces which take Mutex::Locker & to lock internal locks. This patch cleans up most of the easy cases. 2016-03-19Add a DiagnosticManager replace error streams in the expression parser.Sean Callanan
We want to do a better job presenting errors that occur when evaluating expressions. Key to this effort is getting away from a model where all errors are spat out onto a stream where the client has to take or leave all of them. To this end, this patch adds a new class, DiagnosticManager, which contains errors produced by the compiler or by LLDB as an expression is created. The DiagnosticManager can dump itself to a log as well as to a string. Clients will (in the future) be able to filter out the errors they're interested in by ID or present subsets of these errors to the user. This patch is not intended to change the *users* of errors - only to thread DiagnosticManagers to all the places where streams are used. I also attempt to standardize our use of errors a bit, removing trailing newlines and making clients omit 'error:', 'warning:' etc. and instead pass the Severity flag. The patch is testsuite-neutral, with modifications to one part of the MI tests because it relied on "error: error:" being erroneously printed. This patch fixes the MI variable handling and the testcase. <rdar://problem/22864976> llvm-svn: 263859

2015-09-15This patch makes Clang-independent base classes for all the expression types ↵Jim Ingham
that lldb currently vends. Before we had: ClangFunction ClangUtilityFunction ClangUserExpression and code all over in lldb that explicitly made Clang-based expressions. This patch adds an Expression base class, and three pure virtual implementations for the Expression kinds: FunctionCaller UtilityFunction UserExpression You can request one of these expression types from the Target using the Get<ExpressionType>ForLanguage. The Target will then consult all the registered TypeSystem plugins, and if the type system that matches the language can make an expression of that kind, it will do so and return it. Because all of the real expression types need to communicate with their ExpressionParser in a uniform way, I also added a ExpressionTypeSystemHelper class that expressions generically can vend, and a ClangExpressionHelper that encapsulates the operations that the ClangExpressionParser needs to perform on the ClangExpression types. Then each of the Clang* expression kinds constructs the appropriate helper to do what it needs. The patch also fixes a wart in the UtilityFunction that to use it you had to create a parallel FunctionCaller to actually call the function made by the UtilityFunction. Now the UtilityFunction can be asked to vend a FunctionCaller that will run its function. This cleaned up a lot of boiler plate code using UtilityFunctions. Note, in this patch all the expression types explicitly depend on the LLVM JIT and IR, and all the common JIT running code is in the FunctionCaller etc base classes. At some point we could also abstract that dependency but I don't see us adding another back end in the near term, so I'll leave that exercise till it is actually necessary. llvm-svn: 247720

2015-08-24Final bit of type system cleanup that abstracts declaration contexts into ↵Greg Clayton
lldb_private::CompilerDeclContext and renames ClangType to CompilerType in many accessors and functions. Create a new "lldb_private::CompilerDeclContext" class that will replace all direct uses of "clang::DeclContext" when used in compiler agnostic code, yet still allow for conversion to clang::DeclContext subclasses by clang specific code. This completes the abstraction of type parsing by removing all "clang::" references from the SymbolFileDWARF. The new "lldb_private::CompilerDeclContext" class abstracts decl contexts found in compiler type systems so they can be used in internal API calls. The TypeSystem is required to support CompilerDeclContexts with new pure virtual functions that start with "DeclContext" in the member function names. Converted all code that used lldb_private::ClangNamespaceDecl over to use the new CompilerDeclContext class and removed the ClangNamespaceDecl.cpp and ClangNamespaceDecl.h files. Removed direct use of clang APIs from SBType and now use the abstract type systems to correctly explore types.
