2025-07-24[lldb] Allow building using Mingw-w64 on Windows. (#150398)cvspvr
I wasn't able to build lldb using Mingw-w64 on Windows without changing these 3 lines. It seems like `std::atomic<bool>` wasn't being found without `#include <atomic>` and `ceil` was defaulting to `std::ceil` instead of `std::chrono::ceil`, but I'm not smart enough to know the root cause. I'm sure I'm not the first people to try and compile lldb (and clang and lld) with Mingw-w64 and I don't know if something is wrong with my Mingw-w64, but my changes shouldn't have any affect if they aren't needed.
2025-06-26[lldb] Remove child_process_inherit argument from Pipe (#145516)Pavel Labath
It's not necessary on posix platforms as of #126935 and it's ignored on windows as of #138896. For both platforms, we have a better way of inheriting FDs/HANDLEs.
2025-05-12Reapply "[lldb] Inherit DuplicateFileAction(HANDLE, HANDLE) handles on ↵Pavel Labath
windows (#137978)" (#138896) This reverts commit https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/commit/a0260a95ece74733ada00b19d8b1930dde462a66, reapplying https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/commit/7c5f5f3ef83b1d1d43d63862a8431af3dded15bb, with a fix that makes *both* pipe handles inheritable. The original commit description was: This is a follow-up to https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/126935, which enables passing handles to a child process on windows systems. Unlike on unix-like systems, the handles need to be created with the "inheritable" flag because there's to way to change the flag value after it has been created. This is why I don't respect the child_process_inherit flag but rather always set the flag to true. (My next step is to delete the flag entirely.) This does mean that pipe may be created as inheritable even if its not necessary, but I think this is offset by the fact that windows (unlike unixes, which pass all ~O_CLOEXEC descriptors through execve and *all* descriptors through fork) has a way to specify the precise set of handles to pass to a specific child process. If this turns out to be insufficient, instead of a constructor flag, I'd rather go with creating a separate api to create an inheritable copy of a handle (as typically, you only want to inherit one end of the pipe).

2025-05-07[lldb] Inherit DuplicateFileAction(HANDLE, HANDLE) handles on windows (#137978)Pavel Labath
This is a follow-up to https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/126935, which enables passing handles to a child process on windows systems. Unlike on unix-like systems, the handles need to be created with the "inheritable" flag because there's to way to change the flag value after it has been created. 2025-02-27[lldb] Assorted improvements to the Pipe class (#128719)Pavel Labath
The main motivation for this was the inconsistency in handling of partial reads/writes between the windows and posix implementations (windows was returning partial reads, posix was trying to fill the buffer completely). I settle on the windows implementation, as that's the more common behavior, and the "eager" version can be implemented on top of that (in most cases, it isn't necessary, since we're writing just a single byte). Since this also required auditing the callers to make sure they're handling partial reads/writes correctly, I used the opportunity to modernize the function signatures as a forcing function. They now use the `Timeout` class (basically an `optional<duration>`) to support both polls (timeout=0) and blocking (timeout=nullopt) operations in a single function, and use an `Expected` instead of a by-ref result to return the number of bytes read/written. As a drive-by, I also fix a problem with the windows implementation where we were rounding the timeout value down, which meant that calls could time out slightly sooner than expected.
2025-01-23[lldb/windows] Make "anonymous" pipe names more unique (#123905)Pavel Labath
Using a "random" name for an "anonymous" pipe seems to be the state of the art on windows (according to stack overflow, new windows versions may have something better, but it involves calling kernel APIs directly and generally a lot of dark magic). The problem with the current method was that is does not produce unique names if one has two copies of the pipe code in the same process, which is what happened with #120457 (because liblldb only exposes the public api, and we've started using the pipe code in lldb-dap as well). This patch works around the problem by adding the address of the counter variable to the pipe name. Replicating the multiple-copies setup in a test would be very difficult, which is why I'm not adding a test for this scenario.
2024-09-16[lldb] Nits on uses of llvm::raw_string_ostream (NFC) (#108745)Youngsuk Kim
As specified in the docs, 1) raw_string_ostream is always unbuffered and 2) the underlying buffer may be used directly ( 65b13610a5226b84889b923bae884ba395ad084d for further reference ) * Don't call raw_string_ostream::flush(), which is essentially a no-op. * Avoid unneeded calls to raw_string_ostream::str(), to avoid excess indirection.

2020-01-24[lldb][NFC] Fix all formatting errors in .cpp file headersRaphael Isemann
Summary: A *.cpp file header in LLDB (and in LLDB) should like this: ``` //===-- TestUtilities.cpp -------------------------------------------------===// ``` However in LLDB most of our source files have arbitrary changes to this format and these changes are spreading through LLDB as folks usually just use the existing source files as templates for their new files (most notably the unnecessary editor language indicator `-*- C++ -*-` is spreading and in every review someone is pointing out that this is wrong, resulting in people pointing out that this is done in the same way in other files). This patch removes most of these inconsistencies including the editor language indicators, all the different missing/additional '-' characters, files that center the file name, missing trailing `===//` (mostly caused by clang-format breaking the line). 2019-01-19Update the file headers across all of the LLVM projects in the monorepoChandler Carruth
to reflect the new license. We understand that people may be surprised that we're moving the header entirely to discuss the new license. We checked this carefully with the Foundation's lawyer and we believe this is the correct approach. Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM project under our new license, so you will see that the license headers include that license only. Some of our contributors have contributed code under our old license, and accordingly, we have retained a copy of our old license notice in the top-level files in each project and repository. llvm-svn: 351636

2018-04-30Reflow paragraphs in comments.Adrian Prantl
This is intended as a clean up after the big clang-format commit (r280751), which unfortunately resulted in many of the comment paragraphs in LLDB being very hard to read. FYI, the script I used was: import textwrap import commands import os import sys import re tmp = "%s.tmp"%sys.argv[1] out = open(tmp, "w+") with open(sys.argv[1], "r") as f: header = "" text = "" comment = re.compile(r'^( *//) ([^ ].*)$') special = re.compile(r'^((([A-Z]+[: ])|([0-9]+ )).*)|(.*;)$') for line in f: match = comment.match(line) if match and not special.match(match.group(2)): # skip intentionally short comments. if not text and len(match.group(2)) < 40: out.write(line) continue if text: text += " " + match.group(2) else: header = match.group(1) text = match.group(2) continue if text: filled = textwrap.wrap(text, width=(78-len(header)), break_long_words=False) for l in filled: out.write(header+" "+l+'\n') text = "" out.write(line) os.rename(tmp, sys.argv[1]) Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D46144 llvm-svn: 331197
2017-05-12Rename Error -> Status.Zachary Turner
This renames the LLDB error class to Status, as discussed on the lldb-dev mailing list. A change of this magnitude cannot easily be done without find and replace, but that has potential to catch unwanted occurrences of common strings such as "Error". Every effort was made to find all the obvious things such as the word "Error" appearing in a string, etc, but it's possible there are still some lingering occurences left around. Hopefully nothing too serious. llvm-svn: 302872

2016-09-06*** This commit represents a complete reformatting of the LLDB source codeKate Stone
*** to conform to clang-format’s LLVM style. This kind of mass change has *** two obvious implications: Firstly, merging this particular commit into a downstream fork may be a huge effort. Alternatively, it may be worth merging all changes up to this commit, performing the same reformatting operation locally, and then discarding the merge for this particular commit. The commands used to accomplish this reformatting were as follows (with current working directory as the root of the repository): find . \( -iname "*.c" -or -iname "*.cpp" -or -iname "*.h" -or -iname "*.mm" \) -exec clang-format -i {} + find . -iname "*.py" -exec autopep8 --in-place --aggressive --aggressive {} + ; The version of clang-format used was 3.9.0, and autopep8 was 1.2.4. Secondly, “blame” style tools will generally point to this commit instead of a meaningful prior commit. There are alternatives available that will attempt to look through this change and find the appropriate prior commit. YMMV. llvm-svn: 280751

2015-07-21Revert "Add Pipe::WriteWithTimeout method"Pavel Labath

2015-07-21Add Pipe::WriteWithTimeout methodPavel Labath
Summary: This commit adds a WriteWithTimeout method to time Pipe class, analogous to the existing ReadWithTimeout(). It also changes the meaning of passing zero as a timeout value. Previously, zero was used as an infinite timeout value. Now, the meaning of zero timeout to return the data avaiable without sleeping (basically, a non-blocking operation). This makes the behaviour of Pipe consistent with the Communication/Connection classes. For blocking operatios with infinite timeout, I introduce a special constant for this purpose. 2014-12-17Enhance the Pipe interface for better portability.Zachary Turner
This patch makes a number of improvements to the Pipe interface. 1) An interface (PipeBase) is provided which exposes pure virtual methods for any implementation of Pipe to override. While not strictly necessary, this helps catch errors where the interfaces are out of sync. 2) All methods return lldb_private::Error instead of returning bool or void. This allows richer error information to be propagated up to LLDB. 3) A new ReadWithTimeout() method is exposed in the base class and implemented on Windows. 4) Support for both named and anonymous pipes is exposed through the base interface and implemented on Windows. For creating a new pipe, both named and anonymous pipes are supported, and for opening an existing pipe, only named pipes are supported. New methods described in points #3 and #4 are stubbed out on posix, but fully implemented on Windows. These should be implemented by someone on the linux / mac / bsd side. 2014-10-08Fix deadlock in Python one-line execution.Zachary Turner
Python one-line execution was using ConnectionFileDescriptor to do a non-blocking read against a pipe. This won't work on Windows, as CFD is implemented using select(), and select() only works with sockets on Windows. The solution is to use ConnectionGenericFile on Windows, which uses the native API to do overlapped I/O on the pipe. This in turn requires re-implementing Host::Pipe on Windows using native OS handles instead of the more portable _pipe CRT api.
