ValueObject is part of lldbCore for historical reasons, but conceptually it deserves to be its own library. This does introduce a (link-time) circular dependency between lldbCore and lldbValueObject, which is unfortunate but probably unavoidable because so many things in LLDB rely on ValueObject. We already have cycles and these libraries are never built as dylibs so while this doesn't improve the situation, it also doesn't make things worse. The header includes were updated with the following command: ``` find . -type f -exec sed -i.bak "s%include \"lldb/Core/ValueObject%include \"lldb/ValueObject/ValueObject%" '{}' \; ```

that separates out language and version. To avoid reinventing the wheel and introducing subtle incompatibilities, this API uses the table of languages and versiond defined by the upcoming DWARF 6 standard (https://dwarfstd.org/languages-v6.html). While the DWARF 6 spec is not finialized, the list of languages is broadly considered stable. The primary motivation for this is to allow the Swift language plugin to switch between language dialects between, e.g., Swift 5.9 and 6.0 with out introducing a ton of new language codes. 2023-08-01[lldb] Use a time-based timeout in IRInterpreterJonas Devlieghere
At the moment the IRInterpreter will stop interpreting an expression after a hardcoded 4096 instructions. After it reaches the limit it will stop interpreting and leave the process in whatever state it was when the timeout was reached. This patch changes the instruction limit to a timeout and uses the user-specified expression timeout value for this. The main motivation is to allow users on targets where we can't use the JIT to run more complicated expressions if they really want to (which they can do now by just increasing the timeout). The time-based approach also seems much more meaningful than the arbitrary (and very low) instruction limit. 4096 instructions can be interpreted in a few microseconds on some setups but might take much longer if we have a slow connection to the target. I don't think any user actually cares about the number of instructions that are executed but only about the time they are willing to wait for a result. Based off an original patch by Raphael Isemann. 2023-05-02[lldb] Add settings for expression evaluation memory allocations.Ilya Kuklin
Expression evaluation allocates memory for storing intermediate data during evaluation. For it to work properly it has to be allocated within target's available address space, for example within first 0xFFFF bytes for the 16-bit MSP430. The memory for such targets can be very tightly packed, but not all targets support GetMemoryRegionInfo API to pick an unused region, like MSP430 with MSPDebug GDB server. These settings allow the programmer to manually pick precisely where and how much memory to allocate for expression evaluation in order not to overlap with existing data in process memory. 2022-02-03[lldb] Rename Logging.h to LLDBLog.h and clean up includesPavel Labath
Most of our code was including Log.h even though that is not where the "lldb" log channel is defined (Log.h defines the generic logging infrastructure). This worked because Log.h included Logging.h, even though it should. After the recent refactor, it became impossible the two files include each other in this direction (the opposite inclusion is needed), so this patch removes the workaround that was put in place and cleans up all files to include the right thing. It also renames the file to LLDBLog to better reflect its purpose.

2020-01-30[lldb][NFCI] Remove UserExpression::GetJITModuleAlex Langford
UserExpression::GetJITModule was used to support an option in UserExpression::Evaluate that let you hold onto the JIT Module used during the expression evaluation. This was only actually used in one spot -- REPL::IOHandlerInputComplete. That method didn't actually take use the JIT module it got back, so this feature was not used in practice. This means that we can delete the support in UserExpression::Evaluate and delete the UserExpression::GetJITModule method entirely.

This patch removes most of these inconsistencies including the editor language indicators, all the different missing/additional '-' characters, files that center the file name, missing trailing `===//` (mostly caused by clang-format breaking the line). This patch replaces explicit calls to log::Printf with the new LLDB_LOGF macro. The macro is similar to LLDB_LOG but supports printf-style format strings, instead of formatv-style format strings. The `ap` suffix is a remnant of lldb's former use of auto pointers, before they got deprecated. Although all their uses were replaced by unique pointers, some variables still carried the suffix. In r353795 I removed another auto_ptr remnant, namely redundant calls to ::get for unique_pointers. Jim justly noted that this is a good opportunity to clean up the variable names as well. I went over all the changes to ensure my find-and-replace didn't have any undesired side-effects. I hope I didn't miss any, but if you end up at this commit doing a git blame on a weirdly named variable, please know that the change was unintentional. llvm-svn: 353912

We checked this carefully with the Foundation's lawyer and we believe this is the correct approach. A change of this magnitude cannot easily be done without find and replace, but that has potential to catch unwanted occurrences of common strings such as "Error". Every effort was made to find all the obvious things such as the word "Error" appearing in a string, etc, but it's possible there are still some lingering occurences left around. ConstString Error RegularExpression Stream StreamString The goal here is to get lldbUtility into a state where it has no dependendencies except on itself and LLVM, so it can be the starting point at which to start untangling LLDB's dependencies. These are all low level and very widely used classes, and previously lldbUtility had dependencies up to lldbCore in order to use these classes. 2016-04-12Breakpoint conditions were making result variables, which they should not do. Jim Ingham
The result variables aren't useful, and if you have a breakpoint on a common function you can generate a lot of these. So I changed the code that checks the condition to set ResultVariableIsInternal in the EvaluateExpressionOptions that we pass to the execution. Unfortunately, the check for this variable was done in the wrong place (the static UserExpression::Evaluate) which is not how breakpoint conditions execute expressions (UserExpression::Execute). So I moved the check to UserExpression::Execute (which Evaluate also calls) and made the overridden method DoExecute. llvm-svn: 266093
2016-03-19Add a DiagnosticManager replace error streams in the expression parser.Sean Callanan
We want to do a better job presenting errors that occur when evaluating expressions. Key to this effort is getting away from a model where all errors are spat out onto a stream where the client has to take or leave all of them. To this end, this patch adds a new class, DiagnosticManager, which contains errors produced by the compiler or by LLDB as an expression is created. The DiagnosticManager can dump itself to a log as well as to a string. Clients will (in the future) be able to filter out the errors they're interested in by ID or present subsets of these errors to the user. This patch is not intended to change the *users* of errors - only to thread DiagnosticManagers to all the places where streams are used. I also attempt to standardize our use of errors a bit, removing trailing newlines and making clients omit 'error:', 'warning:' etc. and instead pass the Severity flag. The patch is testsuite-neutral, with modifications to one part of the MI tests because it relied on "error: error:" being erroneously printed. This patch changes the IRMemoryMap ivar in InterpreterStackFrame to an IRExecutionUnitSP (which is a subclass), allowing InterpreterStackFrame::ResolveConstantValue() to call FindSymbol() on the name of the Value when it's a FunctionVal. It also changes IRExecutionUnit::FindInSymbols() to call GetFileAddress() on the symball if ResolveCallableAddress() fails and there is no valid Process.
