2025-11-17[lldb] Ensure FILE* access mode is correctly specified when creating a ↵John Harrison
NativeFile. (#167764) If we open a `NativeFile` with a `FILE*`, the OpenOptions default to `eOpenOptionReadOnly`. This is an issue in python scripts if you try to write to one of the files like `print("Hi", file=lldb.debugger.GetOutputFileHandle())`. To address this, we need to specify the access mode whenever we create a `NativeFile` from a `FILE*`. I also added an assert on the `NativeFile` that validates the file is opened with the correct access mode and updated `NativeFile::Read` and `NativeFile::Write` to check the access mode. Before these changes: ``` $ lldb -b -O 'script lldb.debugger.GetOutputFileHandle().write("abc")' (lldb) script lldb.debugger.GetOutputFileHandle().write("abc") Traceback (most recent call last): File "<input>", line 1, in <module> io.UnsupportedOperation: not writable ``` After: ``` $ lldb -b -O 'script lldb.debugger.GetOutputFileHandle().write("abc")' (lldb) script lldb.debugger.GetOutputFileHandle().write("abc") abc3 ``` Fixes #122387

2024-08-27[lldb] Turn lldb_private::Status into a value type. (#106163)Adrian Prantl
This patch removes all of the Set.* methods from Status. This cleanup is part of a series of patches that make it harder use the anti-pattern of keeping a long-lives Status object around and updating it while dropping any errors it contains on the floor. This patch is largely NFC, the more interesting next steps this enables is to: 1. remove Status.Clear() 2. assert that Status::operator=() never overwrites an error 3. remove Status::operator=() Note that step (2) will bring 90% of the benefits for users, and step (3) will dramatically clean up the error handling code in various places. In the end my goal is to convert all APIs that are of the form ` ResultTy DoFoo(Status& error) ` to ` llvm::Expected<ResultTy> DoFoo() ` How to read this patch? The interesting changes are in Status.h and Status.cpp, all other changes are mostly ` perl -pi -e 's/\.SetErrorString/ = Status::FromErrorString/g' $(git grep -l SetErrorString lldb/source) ` plus the occasional manual cleanup.
2022-01-20[lldb] Decouple instrumentation from the reproducersJonas Devlieghere
Remove the last remaining references to the reproducers from the instrumentation. This patch renames the relevant files and macros. Differential revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D117712

2022-01-09[lldb] Remove reproducer instrumentationJonas Devlieghere
This patch removes most of the reproducer instrumentation. It keeps around the LLDB_RECORD_* macros for logging. See [1] for more details. [1] https://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/lldb-dev/2021-September/017045.html Differential revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D116847
2020-02-17[lldb] Replace empty ctor en dtor bodies with =default (NFC)Jonas Devlieghere
Use = default instead of empty constructor and destructor bodies in the API layer.
2020-02-04[lldb/Reproducers] Add missing SBFile methods to the registryJonas Devlieghere
SBFile::Read and SBFile::Write were missing from the registry.
2020-02-04[lldb/Reproducers] Instrument SBFileJonas Devlieghere
Currently SBFile isn't really instrumented, which was causing trouble when capturing and replaying the Python test suite. The class is particularly tricky because one of its constructors takes a FileSP which isn't instrumented. Until we have proper shadowing in place, we'll simply always record a nullptr. 2020-01-24[lldb][NFC] Fix all formatting errors in .cpp file headersRaphael Isemann
Summary: A *.cpp file header in LLDB (and in LLDB) should like this: ``` //===-- TestUtilities.cpp -------------------------------------------------===// ``` However in LLDB most of our source files have arbitrary changes to this format and these changes are spreading through LLDB as folks usually just use the existing source files as templates for their new files (most notably the unnecessary editor language indicator `-*- C++ -*-` is spreading and in every review someone is pointing out that this is wrong, resulting in people pointing out that this is done in the same way in other files). This patch removes most of these inconsistencies including the editor language indicators, all the different missing/additional '-' characters, files that center the file name, missing trailing `===//` (mostly caused by clang-format breaking the line). 2019-10-15SBFile::GetFile: convert SBFile back into python native files.Lawrence D'Anna
Summary: This makes SBFile::GetFile public and adds a SWIG typemap to convert the result back into a python native file. If the underlying File itself came from a python file, it is returned identically. Otherwise a new python file object is created using the file descriptor. 2019-10-14uint32_t options -> File::OpenOptions optionsLawrence D'Anna
Summary: This patch re-types everywhere that passes a File::OpenOptions as a uint32_t so it actually uses File::OpenOptions. 2019-10-09allow arbitrary python streams to be converted to SBFileLawrence D'Anna
Summary: This patch adds SWIG typemaps that can convert arbitrary python file objects into lldb_private::File. A SBFile may be initialized from a python file using the constructor. There are also alternate, tagged constructors that allow python files to be borrowed, and for the caller to control whether or not the python I/O methods will be called even when a file descriptor is available.I Reviewers: JDevlieghere, jasonmolenda, labath Reviewed By: labath Subscribers: zturner, amccarth, lldb-commits Tags: #lldb Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D68188 llvm-svn: 374225
2019-10-03factor out an abstract base class for FileLawrence D'Anna
Summary: This patch factors out File as an abstract base class and moves most of its actual functionality into a subclass called NativeFile. In the next patch, I'm going to be adding subclasses of File that don't necessarily have any connection to actual OS files, so they will not inherit from NativeFile. Summary: Add new methods to SBDebugger to set IO files as SBFiles instead of as FILE* streams. 2019-10-03new api class: SBFileLawrence D'Anna
Summary: SBFile is a scripting API wrapper for lldb_private::File This is the first step in a project to enable arbitrary python io.IOBase file objects -- including those that override the read() and write() methods -- to be used as the main debugger IOStreams. Currently this is impossible because python file objects must first be converted into FILE* streams by SWIG in order to be passed into the debugger. full prototype: https://github.com/smoofra/llvm-project/tree/files Reviewers: JDevlieghere, jasonmolenda, zturner, jingham, labath Reviewed By: labath Subscribers: labath, mgorny, lldb-commits Tags: #lldb Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D67793 llvm-svn: 373562
