2023-10-20Diagnose use of VLAs in C++ by defaultAaron Ballman
Reapplication of 7339c0f782d5c70e0928f8991b0c05338a90c84c with a fix for a crash involving arrays without a size expression. Clang supports VLAs in C++ as an extension, but we currently only warn on their use when you pass -Wvla, -Wvla-extension, or -pedantic. However, VLAs as they're expressed in C have been considered by WG21 and rejected, are easy to use accidentally to the surprise of users (e.g., https://ddanilov.me/default-non-standard-features/), and they have potential security implications beyond constant-size arrays (https://wiki.sei.cmu.edu/confluence/display/c/ARR32-C.+Ensure+size+arguments+for+variable+length+arrays+are+in+a+valid+range). C++ users should strongly consider using other functionality such as std::vector instead. This seems like sufficiently compelling evidence to warn users about VLA use by default in C++ modes. This patch enables the -Wvla-extension diagnostic group in C++ language modes by default, and adds the warning group to -Wall in GNU++ language modes. The warning is still opt-in in C language modes, where support for VLAs is somewhat less surprising to users. 2022-04-07[OpaquePtrs][Clang] Add -no-opaque-pointers to tests (NFC)Nikita Popov
This adds -no-opaque-pointers to clang tests whose output will change when opaque pointers are enabled by default. This is intended to be part of the migration approach described in https://discourse.llvm.org/t/enabling-opaque-pointers-by-default/61322/9. The patch has been produced by replacing %clang_cc1 with %clang_cc1 -no-opaque-pointers for tests that fail with opaque pointers enabled. Worth noting that this doesn't cover all tests, there's a remaining ~40 tests not using %clang_cc1 that will need a followup change. Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D123115

differences For a definition (of most linkage types), dso_local is set for ELF -fno-pic/-fpie and COFF, but not for Mach-O. This nuance causes unneeded binary format differences. This patch replaces (function) `define ` with `define{{.*}} `, (variable/constant/alias) `= ` with `={{.*}} `, or inserts appropriate `{{.*}} ` if there is an explicit linkage. * Clang will set dso_local for Mach-O, which is currently implied by TargetMachine.cpp. This will make COFF/Mach-O and executable ELF similar. * Eventually I hope we can make dso_local the textual LLVM IR default (write explicit "dso_preemptable" when applicable) and -fpic ELF will be similar to everything else. This patch helps move toward that goal.

I see in the history for some of these tests REQUIRES:shell was used as a way to disable tests on Windows because they are flaky there. I tried not to re-enable such tests, but it's possible that I missed some and this will re-enable flaky tests on Windows. If so, we should disable them with UNSUPPORTED:system-windows and add a comment that they are flaky there. So far as I can tell, the lit internal shell is capable of running all of these tests, and we shouldn't use REQUIRES:shell as a proxy for Windows. llvm-svn: 371478

2018-01-19Change memcpy/memove/memset to have dest and source alignment attributes ↵Daniel Neilson
(Step 1). Summary: Upstream LLVM is changing the the prototypes of the @llvm.memcpy/memmove/memset intrinsics. This change updates the Clang tests for this change. The @llvm.memcpy/memmove/memset intrinsics currently have an explicit argument which is required to be a constant integer. It represents the alignment of the dest (and source), and so must be the minimum of the actual alignment of the two. This change removes the alignment argument in favour of placing the alignment attribute on the source and destination pointers of the memory intrinsic call. For example, code which used to read: call void @llvm.memcpy.p0i8.p0i8.i32(i8* %dest, i8* %src, i32 100, i32 4, i1 false) will now read call void @llvm.memcpy.p0i8.p0i8.i32(i8* align 4 %dest, i8* align 4 %src, i32 100, i1 false) At this time the source and destination alignments must be the same (Step 1). Step 2 of the change, to be landed shortly, will relax that contraint and allow the source and destination to have different alignments. llvm-svn: 322964

Tests fall into one of the following categories: - The requirement was unnecessary - Additional quoting was required for backslashes in paths (see "sed -e 's/\\/\\\\/g'") in the sanitizer tests. - OpenMP used 'REQUIRES: shell' as a proxy for the test failing on Windows. Those tests fail there reliably, so use XFAIL instead. I tried not to remove shell requirements that were added to suppress flaky test failures, but if I screwed up, we can add it back as needed. llvm-svn: 284793
