2024-07-23[OpenMP] Ensure the actual kernel is annotated with launch bounds (#99927)Johannes Doerfert
In debug mode there is a wrapper (the kernel) around the function in which we generate the kernel code. We worked around this before to get the correct kernel name, but now we really distinguish both to attach the launch bounds to the kernel, not the inner function.
2024-06-14 [RemoveDIs] Print IR with debug records by default (#91724)Stephen Tozer
This patch makes the final major change of the RemoveDIs project, changing the default IR output from debug intrinsics to debug records. This is expected to break a large number of tests: every single one that tests for uses or declarations of debug intrinsics and does not explicitly disable writing records. If this patch has broken your downstream tests (or upstream tests on a configuration I wasn't able to run): 1. If you need to immediately unblock a build, pass `--write-experimental-debuginfo=false` to LLVM's option processing for all failing tests (remember to use `-mllvm` for clang/flang to forward arguments to LLVM). 2. For most test failures, the changes are trivial and mechanical, enough that they can be done by script; see the migration guide for a guide on how to do this: https://llvm.org/docs/RemoveDIsDebugInfo.html#test-updates 3. If any tests fail for reasons other than FileCheck check lines that need updating, such as assertion failures, that is most likely a real bug with this patch and should be reported as such. 2023-10-31 [OpenMP] Introduce the KernelLaunchEnvironment as implicit argument (#70401)Johannes Doerfert
The KernelEnvironment is for compile time information about a kernel. It allows the compiler to feed information to the runtime. The KernelLaunchEnvironment is for dynamic information *per* kernel launch. It allows the rutime to feed information to the kernel that is not shared with other invocations of the kernel. The first use case is to replace the globals that synchronize teams reductions with per-launch versions. This allows concurrent teams reductions. 2023-10-29[OpenMP] Unify the min/max thread/teams pathwaysJohannes Doerfert
We used to pass the min/max threads/teams values through different paths from the frontend to the middle end. This simplifies the situation by passing the values once, only when we will create the KernelEnvironment, which contains the values. At that point we also manifest the metadata, as appropriate. Some footguns have also been removed, e.g., our target check is now triple-based, not calling convention-based, as the latter is dependent on the ordering of operations. The types of the values have been unified to int32_t.

Besides, some assumptions, such as no nested parallelism, are not per kernel basis, preventing us applying per kernel optimization in the device runtime. This patch introduces per kernel environment. Previously, flags such as execution mode are set through global variables with name like `__kernel_name_exec_mode`. They are accessible on the host by reading the corresponding global variable, but not from the device. Besides, some assumptions, such as no nested parallelism, are not per kernel basis, preventing us applying per kernel optimization in the device runtime. 2023-07-10[OpenMP][OMPIRBuilder] Rename IsEmbedded and IsTargetCodegen flagsSergio Afonso
This patch renames the `OpenMPIRBuilderConfig` flags to reduce confusion over their meaning. `IsTargetCodegen` becomes `IsGPU`, whereas `IsEmbedded` becomes `IsTargetDevice`. The `-fopenmp-is-device` compiler option is also renamed to `-fopenmp-is-target-device` and the `omp.is_device` MLIR attribute is renamed to `omp.is_target_device`. Getters and setters of all these renamed properties are also updated accordingly. Many unit tests have been updated to use the new names, but an alias for the `-fopenmp-is-device` option is created so that external programs do not stop working after the name change. `IsGPU` is set when the target triple is AMDGCN or NVIDIA PTX, and it is only valid if `IsTargetDevice` is specified as well. `IsTargetDevice` is set by the `-fopenmp-is-target-device` compiler frontend option, which is only added to the OpenMP device invocation for offloading-enabled programs. 2023-07-05[OpenMP][CodeGen] Add codegen for combined 'loop' directives.Dave Pagan
The loop directive is a descriptive construct which allows the compiler flexibility in how it generates code for the directive's associated loop(s). See OpenMP specification 5.2 [257:8-9]. Codegen added in this patch for the combined 'loop' directives are: 'target teams loop' -> 'target teams distribute parallel for' 'teams loop' -> 'teams distribute parallel for' 'target parallel loop' -> 'target parallel for' 'parallel loop' -> 'parallel for' NOTE: The implementation of the 'loop' directive itself is unchanged.
