2023-01-18[BitcodeReader] Allow reading pointer types from old IRSebastian Neubauer
When opaque pointers are enabled and old IR with typed pointers is read, the BitcodeReader automatically upgrades all typed pointers to opaque pointers. This is a lossy conversion, i.e. when a function argument is a pointer and unused, it’s impossible to reconstruct the original type behind the pointer. There are cases where the type information of pointers is needed. One is reading DXIL, which is bitcode of old LLVM IR and makes a lot of use of pointers in function signatures. We’d like to keep using up-to-date llvm to read in and process DXIL, so in the face of opaque pointers, we need some way to access the type information of pointers from the read bitcode. This patch allows extracting type information by supplying functions to parseBitcodeFile that get called for each function signature or metadata value. The function can access the type information via the reader’s type IDs and the getTypeByID and getContainedTypeID functions. The tests exemplarily shows how type info from pointers can be stored in metadata for use after the BitcodeReader finished. Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D127728
2023-01-18Revert "[BitcodeReader] Allow reading pointer types from old IR"Nikita Popov
This reverts commit b56df190b01335506ce30a4559d880da76d1a181. The unit tests are implemented in a way that requires support for writing typed pointer bitcode, which is going away soon. Please rewrite it in a way that not have requirement, e.g. by shipping pre-compiled bitcode, as we do for integration tests.

2020-06-15[strictfp] Replace dangling strictfp attrs with nobuiltinKevin P. Neal
In preparation for a patch that will enforce new rules for the usage of the strictfp attribute, this patch introduces auto-upgrade behavior that will replace the strictfp attribute on callsites with nobuiltin if the enclosing function declaration doesn't also have the strictfp attribute. This auto-upgrade isn't being performed on .ll files because that would prevent us from writing a test for the forthcoming verifier behavior. Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D70096
2019-01-19Update the file headers across all of the LLVM projects in the monorepoChandler Carruth
to reflect the new license. We understand that people may be surprised that we're moving the header entirely to discuss the new license. We checked this carefully with the Foundation's lawyer and we believe this is the correct approach. Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM project under our new license, so you will see that the license headers include that license only. Some of our contributors have contributed code under our old license, and accordingly, we have retained a copy of our old license notice in the top-level files in each project and repository. llvm-svn: 351636

2016-11-11Split Bitcode/ReaderWriter.h into separate reader and writer headersTeresa Johnson
Summary: Split ReaderWriter.h which contains the APIs into both the BitReader and BitWriter libraries into BitcodeReader.h and BitcodeWriter.h. This is to address Chandler's concern about sharing the same API header between multiple libraries (BitReader and BitWriter). That concern is why we create a single bitcode library in our downstream build of clang, which led to r286297 being reverted as it added a dependency that created a cycle only when there is a single bitcode library (not two as in upstream). 2016-11-08IR, Bitcode: Change bitcode reader to no longer own its memory buffer.Peter Collingbourne
Unique ownership is just one possible ownership pattern for the memory buffer underlying the bitcode reader. In practice, as this patch shows, ownership can often reside at a higher level. With the upcoming change to allow multiple modules in a single bitcode file, it will no longer be appropriate for modules to generally have unique ownership of their memory buffer. The C API exposes the ownership relation via the LLVMGetBitcodeModuleInContext and LLVMGetBitcodeModuleInContext2 functions, so we still need some way for the module to own the memory buffer. This patch does so by adding an owned memory buffer field to Module, and using it in a few other places where it is convenient. Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D26384 llvm-svn: 286214
2016-11-02Bitcode: Change reader interface to take memory buffers.Peter Collingbourne
As proposed on llvm-dev: http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2016-October/106595.html This change also fixes an API oddity where BitstreamCursor::Read() would return zero for the first read past the end of the bitstream, but would report_fatal_error for subsequent reads. Now we always report_fatal_error for all reads past the end. Updated clients to check for the end of the bitstream before reading from it. I also needed to add padding to the invalid bitcode tests in test/Bitcode/. This is because the streaming interface was not checking that the file size is a multiple of 4. 2015-08-03Fix testing for end of stream in bitstream reader.Derek Schuff
This fixes a bug found while working on the bitcode reader. In particular, the method BitstreamReader::AtEndOfStream doesn't always behave correctly when processing a data streamer. The method fillCurWord doesn't properly set CurWord/BitsInCurWord if the data streamer was already at eof, but GetBytes had not yet set the ObjectSize field of the streaming memory object. This patch fixes this problem, and provides a test to show that this problem has been fixed. Patch by Karl Schimpf. Differential Revision: http://reviews.llvm.org/D11391 llvm-svn: 243890

2014-08-01BitcodeReader: Fix some BlockAddress forward reference corner casesDuncan P. N. Exon Smith
`BlockAddress`es are interesting in that they can reference basic blocks from *outside* the block's function. Since basic blocks are not global values, this presents particular challenges for lazy parsing. One corner case was found in PR11677 and fixed in r147425. In that case, a global variable references a block address. It's necessary to load the relevant function to resolve the forward reference before doing anything with the module. By inspection, I found (and have fixed here) two other cases: - An instruction from one function references a block address from another function, and only the first function is lazily loaded. I fixed this the same way as PR11677: by eagerly loading the referenced function. - A function whose block address is taken is dematerialized, leaving invalid references to it. I fixed this by refusing to dematerialize functions whose block addresses are taken (if you have to load it, you can't unload it). llvm-svn: 214559
2014-08-01Rewrite BitReaderTest, NFCDuncan P. N. Exon Smith
Rewrite the single unit test in `BitReaderTest` so that it's easier to add more tests. - Parse from an assembly string rather than using API. - Use more helper functions. - Use a separate context for the module on the other side. Aside from relying on the assembly parser, there's no functionality change intended. llvm-svn: 214556
2014-04-15verify-di: Implement DebugInfoVerifierDuncan P. N. Exon Smith
Implement DebugInfoVerifier, which steals verification relying on DebugInfoFinder from Verifier. - Adds LegacyDebugInfoVerifierPassPass, a ModulePass which wraps DebugInfoVerifier. Uses -verify-di command-line flag. - Change verifyModule() to invoke DebugInfoVerifier as well as Verifier. - Add a call to createDebugInfoVerifierPass() wherever there was a call to createVerifierPass(). This implementation as a module pass should sidestep efficiency issues, allowing us to turn debug info verification back on. <rdar://problem/15500563> llvm-svn: 206300

2014-01-13[cleanup] Move the Dominators.h and Verifier.h headers into the IRChandler Carruth
directory. These passes are already defined in the IR library, and it doesn't make any sense to have the headers in Analysis. Long term, I think there is going to be a much better way to divide these matters. The dominators code should be fully separated into the abstract graph algorithm and have that put in Support where it becomes obvious that evn Clang's CFGBlock's can use it. Then the verifier can manually construct dominance information from the Support-driven interface while the Analysis library can provide a pass which both caches, reconstructs, and supports a nice update API. But those are very long term, and so I don't want to leave the really confusing structure until that day arrives. llvm-svn: 199082

2013-01-02Move all of the header files which are involved in modelling the LLVM IRChandler Carruth
into their new header subdirectory: include/llvm/IR. This matches the directory structure of lib, and begins to correct a long standing point of file layout clutter in LLVM. There are still more header files to move here, but I wanted to handle them in separate commits to make tracking what files make sense at each layer easier. The only really questionable files here are the target intrinsic tablegen files. But that's a battle I'd rather not fight today. I've updated both CMake and Makefile build systems (I think, and my tests think, but I may have missed something). I've also re-sorted the includes throughout the project. I'll be committing updates to Clang, DragonEgg, and Polly momentarily. llvm-svn: 171366

2012-01-02Undo the hack in r147427 and move this unittest to a better home. ThisChandler Carruth
is testing the bitcode reader's functionality, not VMCore's. Add the what is a hope sufficient build system mojo to build and run a new unittest. Also clean up some of the test's naming. The goal for the file should be to unittest the Bitcode Reader, and this is just one particular test among potentially many in the future. Also, reverse my position and relegate the PR# to a comment, but stash the comment on the same line as the test name so it doesn't get lost. This makes the code more self-documenting hopefully w/o losing track of the PR number. llvm-svn: 147431
