2025-06-25[llvm] annotate remaining CodeGen and CodeGenTypes library interfaces for ↵Andrew Rogers
DLL export (#145361) ## Purpose This patch is one in a series of code-mods that annotate LLVM’s public interface for export. This patch annotates the remaining LLVM CodeGen and CodeGenTypes library interfaces that were missed in, or modified since, previous patches. The annotations currently have no meaningful impact on the LLVM build; however, they are a prerequisite to support an LLVM Windows DLL (shared library) build. ## Background This effort is tracked in #109483. Additional context is provided in [this discourse](https://discourse.llvm.org/t/psa-annotating-llvm-public-interface/85307), and documentation for `LLVM_ABI` and related annotations is found in the LLVM repo [here](https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/blob/main/llvm/docs/InterfaceExportAnnotations.rst). ## Overview The bulk of these changes were generated automatically using the [Interface Definition Scanner (IDS)](https://github.com/compnerd/ids) tool, followed formatting with `git clang-format`. The following manual adjustments were also applied after running IDS: - Explicitly instantiate `CallLowering::setArgFlags` template method instances in `CodeGen/GlobalISel/CallLowering.h` and annotate them with `LLVM_ABI`. These methods are already explicitly instantiated in `lib/CodeGen/GlobalISel/CallLowering.cpp` but were not `extern` declared in the header. - Annotate several explicit template instantiations with `LLVM_EXPORT_TEMPLATE`. - Include `llvm/CodeGen/Passes.h` from `llvm/lib/CodeGen/GlobalMergeFunctions.cpp` to pick up the declaration of `llvm::createGlobalMergeFuncPass` with the `LLVM_ABI` annotation (instead of adding `LLVM_ABI` to the function definition in this file) ## Validation Local builds and tests to validate cross-platform compatibility. This included llvm, clang, and lldb on the following configurations: - Windows with MSVC - Windows with Clang - Linux with GCC - Linux with Clang - Darwin with Clang

2024-07-11[CodeGen] Remove `applySplitCriticalEdges` in `MachineDominatorTree` (#97055)paperchalice
Summary: - Remove wrappers in `MachineDominatorTree`. - Remove `MachineDominatorTree` update code in `MachineBasicBlock::SplitCriticalEdge`. - Use `MachineDomTreeUpdater` in passes which call `MachineBasicBlock::SplitCriticalEdge` and preserve `MachineDominatorTreeWrapperPass` or CFG analyses. Commit abea99f65a97248974c02a5544eaf25fc4240056 introduced related methods in 2014. Now we have SemiNCA based dominator tree in 2017 and dominator tree updater, the solution adopted here seems a bit outdated.

(#95879) - Add `MachineDominatorTreeAnalysis` - Add `MachineDominatorTreePrinterPass` There is no test for this analysis in codebase. Also, the pass name is renamed to `machine-dom-tree` instead of `machinedomtree`.

to reflect the new license. We understand that people may be surprised that we're moving the header entirely to discuss the new license. We checked this carefully with the Foundation's lawyer and we believe this is the correct approach. Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM project under our new license, so you will see that the license headers include that license only. Some of our contributors have contributed code under our old license, and accordingly, we have retained a copy of our old license notice in the top-level files in each project and repository. llvm-svn: 351636

2017-12-01Mark all library options as hidden.Zachary Turner
These command line options are not intended for public use, and often don't even make sense in the context of a particular tool anyway. About 90% of them are already hidden, but when people add new options they forget to hide them, so if you were to make a brand new tool today, link against one of LLVM's libraries, and run tool -help you would get a bunch of junk that doesn't make sense for the tool you're writing. This patch hides these options. The real solution is to not have libraries defining command line options, but that's a much larger effort and not something I'm prepared to take on. 2017-07-14[Dominators] Make IsPostDominator a template parameterJakub Kuderski
Summary: DominatorTreeBase used to have IsPostDominators (bool) member to indicate if the tree is a dominator or a postdominator tree. This made it possible to switch between the two 'modes' at runtime, but it isn't used in practice anywhere. This patch makes IsPostDominator a template argument. This way, it is easier to switch between different algorithms at compile-time based on this argument and design external utilities around it. It also makes it impossible to incidentally assign a postdominator tree to a dominator tree (and vice versa), and to further simplify template code in GenericDominatorTreeConstruction. 2017-06-06Sort the remaining #include lines in include/... and lib/....Chandler Carruth
I did this a long time ago with a janky python script, but now clang-format has built-in support for this. I fed clang-format every line with a #include and let it re-sort things according to the precise LLVM rules for include ordering baked into clang-format these days. I've reverted a number of files where the results of sorting includes isn't healthy. Either places where we have legacy code relying on particular include ordering (where possible, I'll fix these separately) or where we have particular formatting around #include lines that I didn't want to disturb in this patch. This patch is *entirely* mechanical. If you get merge conflicts or anything, just ignore the changes in this patch and run clang-format over your #include lines in the files. Sorry for any noise here, but it is important to keep these things stable. I was seeing an increasing number of patches with irrelevant re-ordering of #include lines because clang-format was used. This patch at least isolates that churn, makes it easy to skip when resolving conflicts, and gets us to a clean baseline (again). llvm-svn: 304787
2017-03-02Do not verify MachimeDominatorTree if it is not calculatedSerge Pavlov
If dominator tree is not calculated or is invalidated, set corresponding pointer in the pass state to nullptr. Such pointer value will indicate that operations with dominator tree are not allowed. In particular, it allows to skip verification for such pass state. The dominator tree is not calculated if the machine dominator pass was skipped, it occures in the case of entities with linkage available_externally. The change fixes some test fails observed when expensive checks are enabled. Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D29280 llvm-svn: 296742

2017-01-13Track validity of pass resultsSerge Pavlov
Running tests with expensive checks enabled exhibits some problems with verification of pass results. First, the pass verification may require results of analysis that are not available. For instance, verification of loop info requires results of dominator tree analysis. A pass may be marked as conserving loop info but does not need to be dependent on DominatorTreePass. When a pass manager tries to verify that loop info is valid, it needs dominator tree, but corresponding analysis may be already destroyed as no user of it remained. Another case is a pass that is skipped. For instance, entities with linkage available_externally do not need code generation and such passes are skipped for them. In this case result verification must also be skipped. To solve these problems this change introduces a special flag to the Pass structure to mark passes that have valid results. If this flag is reset, verifications dependent on the pass result are skipped. Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D27190 llvm-svn: 291882

2014-08-13[MachineDominatorTree] Provide a method to inform a MachineDominatorTree that aQuentin Colombet
critical edge has been split. The MachineDominatorTree will when lazy update the underlying dominance properties when require. ** Context ** This is a follow-up of r215410. Each time a critical edge is split this invalidates the dominator tree information. Thus, subsequent queries of that interface will be slow until the underlying information is actually recomputed (costly). ** Problem ** Prior to this patch, splitting a critical edge needed to query the dominator tree to update the dominator information. Therefore, splitting a bunch of critical edges will likely produce poor performance as each query to the dominator tree will use the slow query path. This happens a lot in passes like MachineSink and PHIElimination. ** Proposed Solution ** Splitting a critical edge is a local modification of the CFG. Moreover, as soon as a critical edge is split, it is not critical anymore and thus cannot be a candidate for critical edge splitting anymore. In other words, the predecessor and successor of a basic block inserted on a critical edge cannot be inserted by critical edge splitting. Using these observations, we can pile up the splitting of critical edge and apply then at once before updating the DT information. The core of this patch moves the update of the MachineDominatorTree information from MachineBasicBlock::SplitCriticalEdge to a lazy MachineDominatorTree. ** Performance ** Thanks to this patch, the motivating example compiles in 4- minutes instead of 6+ minutes. No test case added as the motivating example as nothing special but being huge! The binaries are strictly identical for all the llvm test-suite + SPECs with and without this patch for both Os and O3. Regarding compile time, I observed only noise, although on average I saw a small improvement. <rdar://problem/17894619> llvm-svn: 215576
