2024-07-12[LLDB] Fix remote executables load and caching (#98623)Vladislav Dzhidzhoev
Seemingly, #96256 removed the only call to Platform::GetCachedExecutable, which broke the resolution of executable modules in the remote debugging mode (https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/issues/97410). This commit fixes that.
2024-06-22[lldb] Resolve executables more aggressively on the hostJonas Devlieghere
When unifying the ResolveExecutable implementations in #96256, I missed that RemoteAwarePlatform was able to resolve executables more aggressively. The host platform can rely on the current working directory to make relative paths absolute and resolve things like home directories. This should fix command-target-create-resolve-exe.test.
2024-06-21[lldb] Unify Platform::ResolveExecutable (#96256)Jonas Devlieghere
The Platform class currently has two functions to resolve an executable: `ResolveExecutable` and `ResolveRemoteExecutable`. The former strictly deals with local files while the latter can handle potentially remote files. I couldn't figure out why the distinction matters, at the latter is a super-set of the former. To make things even more confusion, we had a similar but not identical implementation in RemoteAwarePlatform where its implementation of `ResolveExecutable` could handle remote files. To top it all off, we had copy-pasted implementation, dead code included in `PlatformAppleSimulator` and `PlatformRemoteDarwinDevice`. I went ahead and unified all the different implementation on the original `ResolveRemoteExecutable` implementation. As far as I can tell, it should work for every other platform, and the test suite (on macOS) seems to agree with me, except for a small wording change.
2024-05-09[lldb] Unify CalculateMD5 return types (#91029)Anthony Ha
This is a retake of https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/90921 which got reverted because I forgot to modify the CalculateMD5 unit test I had added in https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/88812 The prior failing build is here: https://lab.llvm.org/buildbot/#/builders/68/builds/73622 To make sure this error doesn't happen, I ran `ninja ProcessGdbRemoteTests` and then executed the resulting test binary and observed the `CalculateMD5` test passed. # Overview In my previous PR: https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/88812, @JDevlieghere suggested to match return types of the various calculate md5 functions. This PR achieves that by changing the various calculate md5 functions to return `llvm::ErrorOr<llvm::MD5::MD5Result>`.   The suggestion was to go for `std::optional<>` but I opted for `llvm::ErrorOr<>` because local calculate md5 was already possibly returning `ErrorOr`. To make sure I didn't break the md5 calculation functionality, I ran some tests for the gdb remote client, and things seem to work. # Testing 1. 2023-01-07[lldb] Use std::optional instead of llvm::Optional (NFC)Kazu Hirata
This patch replaces (llvm::|)Optional< with std::optional<. I'll post a separate patch to clean up the "using" declarations, #include "llvm/ADT/Optional.h", etc. This is part of an effort to migrate from llvm::Optional to std::optional: https://discourse.llvm.org/t/deprecating-llvm-optional-x-hasvalue-getvalue-getvalueor/63716
2023-01-07[lldb] Add #include <optional> (NFC)Kazu Hirata
This patch adds #include <optional> to those files containing llvm::Optional<...> or Optional<...>. I'll post a separate patch to actually replace llvm::Optional with std::optional. This is part of an effort to migrate from llvm::Optional to std::optional: https://discourse.llvm.org/t/deprecating-llvm-optional-x-hasvalue-getvalue-getvalueor/63716
2022-12-04[lldb] Use std::nullopt instead of None (NFC)Kazu Hirata
This patch mechanically replaces None with std::nullopt where the compiler would warn if None were deprecated. The intent is to reduce the amount of manual work required in migrating from Optional to std::optional. 2022-04-05[lldb] Move host platform implementations into the base classPavel Labath
About half of our host platform code was implemented in the Platform class, while the rest was it RemoteAwarePlatform. Most of the time, this did not matter, as nearly all our platforms are also RemoteAwarePlatforms. It makes a difference for PlatformQemu, which descends directly from the base class (as it is local-only). This patch moves all host code paths into the base class, and marks PlatformQemu as a "host" platform so it can make use of them (it sounds slightly strange, but that is consistent with what the apple simulator platforms are doing). Not all of the host implementations make sense for this platform, but it can always override those that don't. I add some basic tests using the platform file apis to exercise this functionality. 2022-03-14[lldb] Plumb process host architecture through platform selectionJonas Devlieghere
To allow us to select a different platform based on where the process is running, plumb the process host architecture through platform selection. This patch is in preparation for D121444 which needs this functionality to tell apart iOS binaries running on Apple Silicon vs on a remote iOS device. 2021-11-16[lldb] Refactor Platform::ResolveExecutablePavel Labath
Module resolution is probably the most complex piece of lldb [citation needed], with numerous levels of abstraction, each one implementing various retry and fallback strategies. It is also a very repetitive, with only small differences between "host", "remote-and-connected" and "remote-but-not-(yet)-connected" scenarios. The goal of this patch (first in series) is to reduce the number of abstractions, and deduplicate the code. One of the reasons for this complexity is the tension between the desire to offload the process of module resolution to the remote platform instance (that's how most other platform methods work), and the desire to keep it local to the outer platform class (its easier to subclass the outer class, and it generally makes more sense). This patch resolves that conflict in favour of doing everything in the outer class. The gdb-remote (our only remote platform) implementation of ResolveExecutable was not doing anything gdb-specific, and was rather similar to the other implementations of that method (any divergence is most likely the result of fixes not being applied everywhere rather than intentional). It does this by excising the remote platform out of the resolution codepath. The gdb-remote implementation of ResolveExecutable is moved to Platform::ResolveRemoteExecutable, and the (only) call site is redirected to that. On its own, this does not achieve (much), but it creates new opportunities for layer peeling and code sharing, since all of the code now lives closer together. 2021-10-18[lldb] Return StringRef from PluginInterface::GetPluginNamePavel Labath
There is no reason why this function should be returning a ConstString. While modifying these files, I also fixed several instances where GetPluginName and GetPluginNameStatic were returning different strings. I am not changing the return type of GetPluginNameStatic in this patch, as that would necessitate additional changes, and this patch is big enough as it is. 2021-03-14[lldb] Move PlatformPOSIX::ConnectToWaitingProcesses to RemoteAwarePlatformPavel Labath
The functionality is not posix specific. Also force the usage of the gdb-remote process plugin in the gdb platform class. This is not sufficient to make TestPlatformConnect pass on windows (it seems it suffers from module loading issues, unrelated to this test), but it at least makes it shut down correctly, so I change the skip to an xfail.
2020-09-02[lldb/Target] Add custom interpreter option to `platform shell`Med Ismail Bennani
This patch adds the ability to use a custom interpreter with the `platform shell` command. If the user set the `-s|--shell` option with the path to a binary, lldb passes it down to the platform's `RunShellProcess` method and set it as the shell to use in `ProcessLaunchInfo to run commands. Note that not all the Platforms support running shell commands with custom interpreters (i.e. RemoteGDBServer is only expected to use the default shell). This patch also makes some refactoring and cleanups, like swapping CString for StringRef when possible and updating `SBPlatformShellCommand` with new methods and a new constructor. rdar://67759256 Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D86667 Signed-off-by: Med Ismail Bennani <medismail.bennani@gmail.com>
2020-05-14Moving executable module symbols parsing to target creation method.Levon Ter-Grigoryan
Summary: In our project we are using remote client-server LLDB configuration. We want to parse as much debugging symbols as we can before debugger starts attachment to the remote process. To do that we are passing the path of the local executable module to CreateTarget method at the client. But, it seems that this method are not parsing the executable module symbols. To fix this I added PreloadSymbols call for executable module to target creation method. This patch also fixes a problem where the DynamicLoader would reset a module when launching the target. We fix it by making sure Platform::ResolveExecutable returns the module object obtained from the remote platform. Reviewed By: labath Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D78654
2020-05-13[lldb] Merge PlatformXXX::ResolveExecutablePavel Labath
The near-identical implementations of this function for posix-y platforms were merged in r293910. PlatformWindows was left out of this merge because at the time we did not have a suitable base class to sink the code into. That is no longer true, so this commit finishes the job by moving the code into RemoteAwarePlatform::ResolveExecutable.
2020-04-20[lldb] Prefer executable files from sysroot over files from local filesystemYuri Per
Summary: In D49685 sysroot behaviour was partially fixed. But files from local filesystem with same path still has priority over files from sysroot. This patch fixes it by removing fallback to local filesystem from RemoteAwarePlatform::GetModuleSpec(). It is not actually required because higher level code do such fallback itself. See, for example, resolver in Platform::GetSharedModule(). 2020-01-24[lldb][NFC] Fix all formatting errors in .cpp file headersRaphael Isemann
Summary: A *.cpp file header in LLDB (and in LLDB) should like this: ``` //===-- TestUtilities.cpp -------------------------------------------------===// ``` However in LLDB most of our source files have arbitrary changes to this format and these changes are spreading through LLDB as folks usually just use the existing source files as templates for their new files (most notably the unnecessary editor language indicator `-*- C++ -*-` is spreading and in every review someone is pointing out that this is wrong, resulting in people pointing out that this is done in the same way in other files). This patch removes most of these inconsistencies including the editor language indicators, all the different missing/additional '-' characters, files that center the file name, missing trailing `===//` (mostly caused by clang-format breaking the line). 2019-03-04Refactor user/group name resolving codePavel Labath
Summary: This creates an abstract base class called "UserIDResolver", which can be implemented to provide user/group ID resolution capabilities for various objects. Posix host implement a PosixUserIDResolver, which does that using posix apis (getpwuid and friends). PlatformGDBRemote forwards queries over the gdb-remote link, etc. ProcessInstanceInfo class is refactored to make use of this interface instead of taking a platform pointer as an argument. The base resolver class already implements caching and thread-safety, so implementations don't have to worry about that. The main motivating factor for this was to remove external dependencies from the ProcessInstanceInfo class (so it can be put next to ProcessLaunchInfo and friends), but it has other benefits too: - ability to test the user name caching code - ability to test ProcessInstanceInfo dumping code - consistent interface for user/group resolution between Platform and Host classes. 2019-02-12Extract common PlatformPOSIX/Windows code into a separate classPavel Labath
Summary: The two classes contained a lot of duplicated code, but there wasn't a good place to factor it to. It couldn't be the base Platform class, since we also have platforms which are only remote (such as PlatformGDBRemoteServer), and so it did not make sense for those to have an m_remote_platform member. This patch creates a new class, RemoteAwarePlatform, which can serve as a base class for platforms which can both serve as a host, and forward actions to a remote system. It is motivated partly by D56232 (which was about to add a bunch of additional duplicated methods), and partly by my own need to modify a function which happens to be implemented in both places identically. The patch moves the methods which are trivially identical in the two classes into the common base class, there were one or two more methods which could probably be merged into one, but this wasn't completely trivial, so I did not attempt to do that now.
