2025-02-27[lldb] Reimplement LineTable::FindLineEntryByAddress on top of lower_bound ↵Pavel Labath
(#127799) I *think* this should be equivalent to the original implementation for all line tables occurring in practice. One difference I'm aware of is that the original implementation tried to return the first line entry out of multiple ones for the same address. However, this is not possible (anymore?) because of the check in LineTable::AppendLineEntryToSequence.
2025-02-20[lldb] Renaissance LineTable sequences (#127800)Pavel Labath
LineSeqeunce is basically a vector, except that users aren't supposed to know that. This implements the same concept in a slightly simpler fashion.
2025-02-20[lldb] Replace LineTable::upper_bound with GetLineEntryIndexRange (#127806)Pavel Labath
After (too) much deliberation, I came to the conclusion that this isn't the right abstraction, as it doesn't behave completely like the standard upper_bound method. What I really wanted was to get the range of line entries for a given address range -- so I implement just that. lower_bound is still useful as a primitive for building other kinds of lookups.
2025-02-19[lldb] Add LineTable::{upper,lower}_bound (#127519)Pavel Labath
The motivation is #123622 and the fact that is hard to fine the last line entry in a given range. `FindLineEntryByAddress(range_end-1)` is the best we have, but it's not ideal because it has a magic -1 and that it relies on there existing a line entry at that address (generally, it should be there, but if for some case it isn't, we might end up ignoring the entries that are there (or -- like my incorrect fix in #123622 did -- iterating through the entire line table). What we really want is to get the last entry that exists in the given range. Or, equivalently (and more STL-like) the first entry after that range. This is what these functions do. I've used the STL names since they do pretty much exactly what the standard functions do (the main head-scratcher comes from the fact that our entries represent ranges rather than single values). The functions can also be used to simplify the maze of `if` statements in `FindLineEntryByAddress`, but I'm keeping that as a separate patch. For now, I'm just adding some unit testing for that function to gain more confidence that the patch does not change the function behavior. --------- Co-authored-by: Jonas Devlieghere <jonas@devlieghere.com>
2024-09-03[lldb] Avoid FileSpec indirection where we can use SupportFiles directlyJonas Devlieghere
Now that more parts of LLDB know about SupportFiles, avoid going through FileSpec (and losing the Checksum in the process). Instead, use the SupportFile directly.
2024-07-01[lldb] Make semantics of SupportFile equivalence explicit (#97126)Jonas Devlieghere
This is an improved attempt to improve the semantics of SupportFile equivalence, taking into account the feedback from #95606. Pavel's comment about the lack of a concise name because the concept isn't trivial made me realize that I don't want to abstract this concept away behind a helper function. Instead, I opted for a rather verbose enum that forces the caller to consider exactly what kind of comparison is appropriate for every call.
2024-03-21[lldb] Reland: Store SupportFile in FileEntry (NFC) (#85892)Jonas Devlieghere
This is another step towards supporting DWARF5 checksums and inline source code in LLDB. This is a reland of #85468 but without the functional change of storing the support file from the line table (yet).

2021-05-05[lldb/Symbol] Fix column breakpoint `move_to_nearest_code` matchMed Ismail Bennani
This patch fixes the column symbol resolution when creating a breakpoint with the `move_to_nearest_code` flag set. In order to achieve this, the patch adds column information handling in the `LineTable`'s `LineEntry` finder. After experimenting a little, it turns out the most natural approach in case of an inaccurate column match, is to move backward and match the previous `LineEntry` rather than going forward like we do with simple line breakpoints. The patch also reflows the function to reduce code duplication. Finally, it updates the `BreakpointResolver` heuristic to align it with the `LineTable` method. rdar://73218201 Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D101221 Signed-off-by: Med Ismail Bennani <medismail.bennani@gmail.com>

2020-01-24[lldb][NFC] Fix all formatting errors in .cpp file headersRaphael Isemann
Summary: A *.cpp file header in LLDB (and in LLDB) should like this: ``` //===-- TestUtilities.cpp -------------------------------------------------===// ``` However in LLDB most of our source files have arbitrary changes to this format and these changes are spreading through LLDB as folks usually just use the existing source files as templates for their new files (most notably the unnecessary editor language indicator `-*- C++ -*-` is spreading and in every review someone is pointing out that this is wrong, resulting in people pointing out that this is done in the same way in other files). This patch removes most of these inconsistencies including the editor language indicators, all the different missing/additional '-' characters, files that center the file name, missing trailing `===//` (mostly caused by clang-format breaking the line). 2019-08-06Fix line table resolution near the end of a sectionPavel Labath
Summary: lld r367537 changed the way the linker organizes sections and segments. This exposed an lldb bug and caused some tests to fail. In all of the failing tests the root cause was the same -- when we were trying to resolve the last address in the line_table section, we failed because it pointed past the end of the section. This patch changes the line table address resolution code to back up the address by one for end-of-sequence entries. This ensures the address still points inside a section/module even if the line table sequence ends at the very end of a section. It also reverts the linker flags which were added to the failing tests to restore previous behavior. 2019-04-10[NFC] Remove ASCII lines from commentsJonas Devlieghere
A lot of comments in LLDB are surrounded by an ASCII line to delimit the begging and end of the comment. Its use is not really consistent across the code base, sometimes the lines are longer, sometimes they are shorter and sometimes they are omitted. Furthermore, it looks kind of weird with the 80 column limit, where the comment actually extends past the line, but not by much. Furthermore, when /// is used for Doxygen comments, it looks particularly odd. And when // is used, it incorrectly gives the impression that it's actually a Doxygen comment. I assume these lines were added to improve distinguishing between comments and code. However, given that todays editors and IDEs do a great job at highlighting comments, I think it's worth to drop this for the sake of consistency. The alternative is fixing all the inconsistencies, which would create a lot more churn. Differential revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D60508 llvm-svn: 358135

2019-02-13Replace 'ap' with 'up' suffix in variable names. (NFC)Jonas Devlieghere
The `ap` suffix is a remnant of lldb's former use of auto pointers, before they got deprecated. Although all their uses were replaced by unique pointers, some variables still carried the suffix. In r353795 I removed another auto_ptr remnant, namely redundant calls to ::get for unique_pointers. Jim justly noted that this is a good opportunity to clean up the variable names as well. I went over all the changes to ensure my find-and-replace didn't have any undesired side-effects. I hope I didn't miss any, but if you end up at this commit doing a git blame on a weirdly named variable, please know that the change was unintentional. llvm-svn: 353912
2019-01-19Update the file headers across all of the LLVM projects in the monorepoChandler Carruth
to reflect the new license. We understand that people may be surprised that we're moving the header entirely to discuss the new license. We checked this carefully with the Foundation's lawyer and we believe this is the correct approach. Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM project under our new license, so you will see that the license headers include that license only. Some of our contributors have contributed code under our old license, and accordingly, we have retained a copy of our old license notice in the top-level files in each project and repository. llvm-svn: 351636

2017-02-02Move classes from Core -> Utility.Zachary Turner
This moves the following classes from Core -> Utility. ConstString Error RegularExpression Stream StreamString The goal here is to get lldbUtility into a state where it has no dependendencies except on itself and LLVM, so it can be the starting point at which to start untangling LLDB's dependencies. These are all low level and very widely used classes, and previously lldbUtility had dependencies up to lldbCore in order to use these classes. So moving then down to lldbUtility makes sense from both the short term and long term perspective in solving this problem. Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D29427 llvm-svn: 293941

*** to conform to clang-format’s LLVM style. This kind of mass change has *** two obvious implications: Firstly, merging this particular commit into a downstream fork may be a huge effort. Alternatively, it may be worth merging all changes up to this commit, performing the same reformatting operation locally, and then discarding the merge for this particular commit. The commands used to accomplish this reformatting were as follows (with current working directory as the root of the repository): find . \( -iname "*.c" -or -iname "*.cpp" -or -iname "*.h" -or -iname "*.mm" \) -exec clang-format -i {} + find . -iname "*.py" -exec autopep8 --in-place --aggressive --aggressive {} + ; The version of clang-format used was 3.9.0, and autopep8 was 1.2.4. Summary: If two dwarf sequences begin with entries that have identical addresses, it is possible for the comparator to order the first entry of the new sequence between the first and second entries of the existing sequence. 2015-09-16Fix prologue end handling when code compiled by gccTamas Berghammer
GCC don't use the is_prologue_end flag to mark the first instruction after the prologue. Instead of it it is issuing a line table entry for the first instruction of the prologue and one for the first instruction after the prologue. If the size of the prologue is 0 instruction then the 2 line entry will have the same file address. We remove these duplicates entries as they are violating the dwarf spec and can cause confusion in the debugger. To prevent the lost of information about the end of prologue we should set the prologue end flag for the line entries what are representing more then 1 entry. The compiler, when JIT'ing code, can emit illegal DWARF line tables (address is line table sequences must increase). Since the address range of lines entries is determined by the delta between the current and next line entry, this shouldn't cause any issues. llvm-svn: 211212

DWARF with .o files now uses 40-60% less memory! Big fixes include: - Change line table internal representation to contain "file addresses". Since each line table is owned by a compile unit that is owned by a module, it makes address translation into lldb_private::Address easy to do when needed. - Removed linked address members/methods from lldb_private::Section and lldb_private::Address - lldb_private::LineTable can now relink itself using a FileRangeMap to make it easier to re-link line tables in the future - Added ObjectFile::ClearSymtab() so that we can get rid of the object file symbol tables after we parse them once since they are not needed and kept memory allocated for no reason - Moved the m_sections_ap (std::auto_ptr to section list) and m_symtab_ap (std::auto_ptr to the lldb_private::Symtab) out of each of the ObjectFile subclasses and put it into lldb_private::ObjectFile. - Changed how the debug map is parsed and stored to be able to: - Lazily parse the debug map for each object file - not require the address map for a .o file until debug information is linked for a .o file llvm-svn: 176454

I started work on being able to add symbol files after a debug session had started with a new "target symfile add" command and quickly ran into problems with stale Address objects in breakpoint locations that had lldb_private::Section pointers into modules that had been removed or replaced. This also let to grabbing stale modules from those sections. So I needed to thread harded the Address, Section and related objects. To do this I modified the ModuleChild class to now require a ModuleSP on initialization so that a weak reference can created. I also changed all places that were handing out "Section *" to have them hand out SectionSP. All ObjectFile, SymbolFile and SymbolVendors were inheriting from ModuleChild so all of the find plug-in, static creation function and constructors now require ModuleSP references instead of Module *. Address objects now have weak references to their sections which can safely go stale when a module gets destructed. This checkin doesn't complete the "target symfile add" command, but it does get us a lot clioser to being able to do such things without a high risk of crashing or memory corruption. llvm-svn: 151336
