2025-02-06[lldb] Add SymbolContext::GetFunctionOrSymbolAddress (#123340)Pavel Labath
Many uses of SC::GetAddressRange were not interested in the range, but in the address of the function/symbol contained inside the symbol context. They were getting that by calling the GetBaseAddress on the returned range, which worked well enough so far, but isn't compatible with discontinuous functions, whose address (entry point) may not be the lowest address in the range. To resolve this problem, this PR creates a new function whose purpose is return the address of the function or symbol inside the symbol context. It also changes all of the callers of GetAddressRange which do not actually care about the range to call this function instead.
2024-10-24[lldb] Move ValueObject into its own library (NFC) (#113393)Jonas Devlieghere
ValueObject is part of lldbCore for historical reasons, but conceptually it deserves to be its own library. This does introduce a (link-time) circular dependency between lldbCore and lldbValueObject, which is unfortunate but probably unavoidable because so many things in LLDB rely on ValueObject. We already have cycles and these libraries are never built as dylibs so while this doesn't improve the situation, it also doesn't make things worse. The header includes were updated with the following command: ``` find . -type f -exec sed -i.bak "s%include \"lldb/Core/ValueObject%include \"lldb/ValueObject/ValueObject%" '{}' \; ```
2023-08-09[lldb] Sink StreamFile into lldbHostAlex Langford
StreamFile subclasses Stream (from lldbUtility) and is backed by a File (from lldbHost). It does not depend on anything from lldbCore or any of its sibling libraries, so I think it makes sense for this to live in lldbHost instead. Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D157460
2022-11-16Make CompilerType safeAdrian Prantl
When a process gets restarted TypeSystem objects associated with it may get deleted, and any CompilerType objects holding on to a reference to that type system are a use-after-free in waiting. Because of the SBAPI, we don't have tight control over where CompilerTypes go and when they are used. This is particularly a problem in the Swift plugin, where the scratch TypeSystem can be restarted while the process is still running. The Swift plugin has a lock to prevent abuse, but where there's a lock there can be bugs. This patch changes CompilerType to store a std::weak_ptr<TypeSystem>. Most of the std::weak_ptr<TypeSystem>* uglyness is hidden by introducing a wrapper class CompilerType::WrappedTypeSystem that has a dyn_cast_or_null() method. The only sites that need to know about the weak pointer implementation detail are the ones that deal with creating TypeSystems. rdar://101505232 Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D136650

2020-01-24[lldb][NFC] Fix all formatting errors in .cpp file headersRaphael Isemann
Summary: A *.cpp file header in LLDB (and in LLDB) should like this: ``` //===-- TestUtilities.cpp -------------------------------------------------===// ``` However in LLDB most of our source files have arbitrary changes to this format and these changes are spreading through LLDB as folks usually just use the existing source files as templates for their new files (most notably the unnecessary editor language indicator `-*- C++ -*-` is spreading and in every review someone is pointing out that this is wrong, resulting in people pointing out that this is done in the same way in other files). This patch removes most of these inconsistencies including the editor language indicators, all the different missing/additional '-' characters, files that center the file name, missing trailing `===//` (mostly caused by clang-format breaking the line). 2019-10-17Modernize the rest of the Find.* API (NFC)Adrian Prantl
This patch removes the size_t return value and the append parameter from the remainder of the Find.* functions in LLDB's internal API. As in the previous patches, this is motivated by the fact that these parameters aren't really used, and in the case of the append parameter were frequently implemented incorrectly. 2019-09-13[Target] Move InferiorCall to ProcessAlex Langford
Summary: InferiorCall is only ever used in Process, and it is not specific to POSIX. By moving it to Process, we can remove all dependencies on plugins from Process. Moving InferiorCall to Process seems to achieve this quite well. Additionally, the name InferiorCall is a little vague now, so we rename it something a bit more specific. 2019-04-05Unify random timeouts throughout LLDB and make them configurable.Adrian Prantl
Since these timeouts guard against catastrophic error in debugserver, I also increased all of them to the maximum value among them. The motivation for this test was the observation that an asanified LLDB would often exhibit seemingly random test failures that could be traced back to debugserver packets getting out of sync. With this path applied I can no longer reproduce the one particular failure mode that I was investigating. rdar://problem/49441261 Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D60340 llvm-svn: 357829
2019-01-19Update the file headers across all of the LLVM projects in the monorepoChandler Carruth
to reflect the new license. We understand that people may be surprised that we're moving the header entirely to discuss the new license. We checked this carefully with the Foundation's lawyer and we believe this is the correct approach. Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM project under our new license, so you will see that the license headers include that license only. Some of our contributors have contributed code under our old license, and accordingly, we have retained a copy of our old license notice in the top-level files in each project and repository. llvm-svn: 351636

*** to conform to clang-format’s LLVM style. This kind of mass change has *** two obvious implications: Firstly, merging this particular commit into a downstream fork may be a huge effort. Alternatively, it may be worth merging all changes up to this commit, performing the same reformatting operation locally, and then discarding the merge for this particular commit. The commands used to accomplish this reformatting were as follows (with current working directory as the root of the repository): find . \( -iname "*.c" -or -iname "*.cpp" -or -iname "*.h" -or -iname "*.mm" \) -exec clang-format -i {} + find . -iname "*.py" -exec autopep8 --in-place --aggressive --aggressive {} + ; The version of clang-format used was 3.9.0, and autopep8 was 1.2.4. Secondly, “blame” style tools will generally point to this commit instead of a meaningful prior commit. There are alternatives available that will attempt to look through this change and find the appropriate prior commit. YMMV. llvm-svn: 280751
2016-03-19Add a DiagnosticManager replace error streams in the expression parser.Sean Callanan
We want to do a better job presenting errors that occur when evaluating expressions. Key to this effort is getting away from a model where all errors are spat out onto a stream where the client has to take or leave all of them. To this end, this patch adds a new class, DiagnosticManager, which contains errors produced by the compiler or by LLDB as an expression is created. The DiagnosticManager can dump itself to a log as well as to a string. Clients will (in the future) be able to filter out the errors they're interested in by ID or present subsets of these errors to the user. This patch is not intended to change the *users* of errors - only to thread DiagnosticManagers to all the places where streams are used. I also attempt to standardize our use of errors a bit, removing trailing newlines and making clients omit 'error:', 'warning:' etc. and instead pass the Severity flag. The patch is testsuite-neutral, with modifications to one part of the MI tests because it relied on "error: error:" being erroneously printed. This patch fixes the MI variable handling and the testcase. <rdar://problem/22864976> llvm-svn: 263859
2016-03-12This change introduces a "ExpressionExecutionThread" to the ThreadList. Jim Ingham
Turns out that most of the code that runs expressions (e.g. the ObjC runtime grubber) on behalf of the expression parser was using the currently selected thread. But sometimes, e.g. when we are evaluating breakpoint conditions/commands, we don't select the thread we're running on, we instead set the context for the interpreter, and explicitly pass that to other callers. That wasn't getting communicated to these utility expressions, so they would run on some other thread instead, and that could cause a variety of subtle and hard to reproduce problems. I also went through the commands and cleaned up the use of GetSelectedThread. All those uses should have been trying the thread in the m_exe_ctx belonging to the command object first. It would actually have been pretty hard to get misbehavior in these cases, but for correctness sake it is good to make this usage consistent. <rdar://problem/24978569> llvm-svn: 263326
2016-01-08Prevent infinite recursive loop in AppleObjCTrampolineHandler constructorStephane Sezer
Summary: When we construct AppleObjCTrampolineHandler, if m_impl_fn_addr is invalid, we call CanJIT(). If the gdb remote process does not support allocating and deallocating memory, this call stack will include a call to the AppleObjCRuntime constructor. The AppleObjCRuntime constructor will then call the AppleObjCTrampolineHandler constructor, creating a recursive call loop that eventually overflows the stack and segfaults. Avoid this call loop by not constructing the AppleObjCTrampolineHandler within AppleObjCRuntime until we actually need to use it. 2014-01-10Get the breakpoint setting, and the Mac OS X DYLD trampolines and expression ↵Jim Ingham
evaluator to handle Indirect symbols correctly. There were a couple of pieces to this. 1) When a breakpoint location finds itself pointing to an Indirect symbol, when the site for it is created it needs to resolve the symbol and actually set the site at its target. 2) Not all breakpoints want to do this (i.e. a straight address breakpoint should always set itself on the specified address, so somem machinery was needed to specify that. 3) I added some info to the break list output for indirect symbols so you could see what was happening. Also I made it clear when we re-route through re-exported symbols. 4) I moved ResolveIndirectFunction from ProcessPosix to Process since it works the exact same way on Mac OS X and the other posix systems. If we find a platform that doesn't do it this way, they can override the call in Process. 5) Fixed one bug in RunThreadPlan, if you were trying to run a thread plan after a "running" event had been broadcast, the event coalescing would cause you to miss the ThreadPlan running event. So I added a way to override the coalescing. 6) Made DynamicLoaderMacOSXDYLD::GetStepThroughTrampolinePlan handle Indirect & Re-exported symbols. <rdar://problem/15280639> llvm-svn: 198976

2013-11-07This patch does a couple of things. Jim Ingham
It completes the job of using EvaluateExpressionOptions consistently throughout the inferior function calling mechanism in lldb begun in Greg's patch r194009. It removes a handful of alternate calls into the ClangUserExpression/ClangFunction/ThreadPlanCallFunction which were there for convenience. Using the EvaluateExpressionOptions removes the need for them. Using that it gets the --debug option from Greg's patch to work cleanly. It also adds another EvaluateExpressionOption to not trap exceptions when running expressions. You shouldn't use this option unless you KNOW your expression can't throw beyond itself. This is: <rdar://problem/15374885> At present this is only available through the SB API's or python. It fixes a bug where function calls would unset the ObjC & C++ exception breakpoints without checking whether they were set by somebody else already. llvm-svn: 194182
2013-11-04Roll back the changes I made in r193907 which created a new FrameJason Molenda
pure virtual base class and made StackFrame a subclass of that. As I started to build on top of that arrangement today, I found that it wasn't working out like I intended. Instead I'll try sticking with the single StackFrame class -- there's too much code duplication to make a more complicated class hierarchy sensible I think. llvm-svn: 193983
2013-11-02Add a new base class, Frame. It is a pure virtual function whichJason Molenda
defines a protocol that all subclasses will implement. StackFrame is currently the only subclass and the methods that Frame vends are nearly identical to StackFrame's old methods. Update all callers to use Frame*/Frame& instead of pointers to StackFrames. This is almost entirely a mechanical change that touches a lot of the code base so I'm committing it alone. No new functionality is added with this patch, no new subclasses of Frame exist yet. I'll probably need to tweak some of the separation, possibly moving some of StackFrame's methods up in to Frame, but this is a good starting point. <rdar://problem/15314068> llvm-svn: 193907

2013-07-11Huge change to clean up types.Greg Clayton
A long time ago we start with clang types that were created by the symbol files and there were many functions in lldb_private::ClangASTContext that helped. Later we create ClangASTType which contains a clang::ASTContext and an opauque QualType, but we didn't switch over to fully using it. There were a lot of places where we would pass around a raw clang_type_t and also pass along a clang::ASTContext separately. This left room for error. This checkin change all type code over to use ClangASTType everywhere and I cleaned up the interfaces quite a bit. Any code that was in ClangASTContext that was type related, was moved over into ClangASTType. All code that used these types was switched over to use all of the new goodness. llvm-svn: 186130

errors (i.e. crashes) which continue to be controlled by the --unwind-on-error flag, and --ignore-breakpoint which separately controls behavior when a called function hits a breakpoint. For breakpoints, we don't unwind, we either stop, or ignore the breakpoint, which makes more sense. Also make both these behaviors globally settable through "settings set". Also handle the case where a breakpoint command calls code that ends up re-hitting the breakpoint. We were recursing and crashing. 2012-08-29<rdar://problem/11757916>Greg Clayton
Make breakpoint setting by file and line much more efficient by only looking for inlined breakpoint locations if we are setting a breakpoint in anything but a source implementation file. Implementing this complex for a many reasons. Turns out that parsing compile units lazily had some issues with respect to how we need to do things with DWARF in .o files. So the fixes in the checkin for this makes these changes: - Add a new setting called "target.inline-breakpoint-strategy" which can be set to "never", "always", or "headers". "never" will never try and set any inlined breakpoints (fastest). "always" always looks for inlined breakpoint locations (slowest, but most accurate). "headers", which is the default setting, will only look for inlined breakpoint locations if the breakpoint is set in what are consudered to be header files, which is realy defined as "not in an implementation source file". - modify the breakpoint setting by file and line to check the current "target.inline-breakpoint-strategy" setting and act accordingly - Modify compile units to be able to get their language and other info lazily. This allows us to create compile units from the debug map and not have to fill all of the details in, and then lazily discover this information as we go on debuggging. This is needed to avoid parsing all .o files when setting breakpoints in implementation only files (no inlines). Otherwise we would need to parse the .o file, the object file (mach-o in our case) and the symbol file (DWARF in the object file) just to see what the compile unit was. - modify the "SymbolFileDWARFDebugMap" to subclass lldb_private::Module so that the virtual "GetObjectFile()" and "GetSymbolVendor()" functions can be intercepted when the .o file contenst are later lazilly needed. Prior to this fix, when we first instantiated the "SymbolFileDWARFDebugMap" class, we would also make modules, object files and symbol files for every .o file in the debug map because we needed to fix up the sections in the .o files with information that is in the executable debug map. Now we lazily do this in the DebugMapModule::GetObjectFile() Cleaned up header includes a bit as well. llvm-svn: 162860
