2024-10-24[lldb] Move ValueObject into its own library (NFC) (#113393)Jonas Devlieghere
ValueObject is part of lldbCore for historical reasons, but conceptually it deserves to be its own library. This does introduce a (link-time) circular dependency between lldbCore and lldbValueObject, which is unfortunate but probably unavoidable because so many things in LLDB rely on ValueObject. We already have cycles and these libraries are never built as dylibs so while this doesn't improve the situation, it also doesn't make things worse. The header includes were updated with the following command: ``` find . -type f -exec sed -i.bak "s%include \"lldb/Core/ValueObject%include \"lldb/ValueObject/ValueObject%" '{}' \; ```

2024-08-27[lldb] Turn lldb_private::Status into a value type. (#106163)Adrian Prantl
This patch removes all of the Set.* methods from Status. This cleanup is part of a series of patches that make it harder use the anti-pattern of keeping a long-lives Status object around and updating it while dropping any errors it contains on the floor. This patch is largely NFC, the more interesting next steps this enables is to: 1. remove Status.Clear() 2. assert that Status::operator=() never overwrites an error 3. remove Status::operator=() Note that step (2) will bring 90% of the benefits for users, and step (3) will dramatically clean up the error handling code in various places. In the end my goal is to convert all APIs that are of the form ` ResultTy DoFoo(Status& error) ` to ` llvm::Expected<ResultTy> DoFoo() ` How to read this patch? The interesting changes are in Status.h and Status.cpp, all other changes are mostly ` perl -pi -e 's/\.SetErrorString/ = Status::FromErrorString/g' $(git grep -l SetErrorString lldb/source) ` plus the occasional manual cleanup.
2024-08-12[lldb] Avoid calling DataLayout constructor accepting Module pointer (NFC) ↵Sergei Barannikov
(#102839) The constructor initializes `*this` with a copy of `M->getDataLayout()`, which can just be spelled as `DataLayout DL = M->getDataLayout()`. In all places where the constructor is used, Module outlives DataLayout, so store a reference to it instead of cloning. Pull Request: https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/102839
2024-05-31[IRInterpreter] Return zero address for missing weak function (#93548)Nikita Popov
If a weak function is missing, still return it's address (zero) rather than failing interpretation. Otherwise we have a mismatch between Interpret() and CanInterpret() resulting in failures that would not occur with JIT execution. Alternatively, we could try to look for weak symbols in CanInterpret() and generally reject them there. This is the root cause for the issue exposed by https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/92885. Previously, the case affected by that always fell back to JIT because an icmp constant expression was used, which is not supported by the interpreter. Now a normal icmp instruction is used, which is supported. However, we fail to interpret due to incorrect handling of weak function addresses.

2023-08-01[lldb] Use a time-based timeout in IRInterpreterJonas Devlieghere
At the moment the IRInterpreter will stop interpreting an expression after a hardcoded 4096 instructions. After it reaches the limit it will stop interpreting and leave the process in whatever state it was when the timeout was reached. This patch changes the instruction limit to a timeout and uses the user-specified expression timeout value for this. The main motivation is to allow users on targets where we can't use the JIT to run more complicated expressions if they really want to (which they can do now by just increasing the timeout). The time-based approach also seems much more meaningful than the arbitrary (and very low) instruction limit. 4096 instructions can be interpreted in a few microseconds on some setups but might take much longer if we have a slow connection to the target. I don't think any user actually cares about the number of instructions that are executed but only about the time they are willing to wait for a result. Based off an original patch by Raphael Isemann. 2022-02-03[lldb] Rename Logging.h to LLDBLog.h and clean up includesPavel Labath
Most of our code was including Log.h even though that is not where the "lldb" log channel is defined (Log.h defines the generic logging infrastructure). This worked because Log.h included Logging.h, even though it should. After the recent refactor, it became impossible the two files include each other in this direction (the opposite inclusion is needed), so this patch removes the workaround that was put in place and cleans up all files to include the right thing. It also renames the file to LLDBLog to better reflect its purpose.

2020-07-02[lldb] Fix type conversion in the Scalar gettersPavel Labath
Summary: The Scalar class claims to follow the C type conversion rules. This is true for the Promote function, but it is not true for the implicit conversions done in the getter methods. These functions had a subtle bug: when extending the type, they used the signedness of the *target* type in order to determine whether to do sign-extension or zero-extension. This is not how things work in C, which uses the signedness of the *source* type. I.e., C does (sign-)extension before it does signed->unsigned conversion, and not the other way around. This means that: (unsigned long)(int)-1 is equal to (unsigned long)0xffffffffffffffff and not (unsigned long)0x00000000ffffffff Unsurprisingly, we have accumulated code which depended on this inconsistent behavior. It mainly manifested itself as code calling "ULongLong/SLongLong" as a way to get the value of the Scalar object in a primitive type that is "large enough". Previously, the ULongLong conversion did not do sign-extension, but now it does. This patch makes the Scalar getters consistent with the declared semantics, and fixes the couple of call sites that were using it incorrectly. 2020-02-11[lldb] Delete the SharingPtr classPavel Labath
Summary: The only use of this class was to implement the SharedCluster of ValueObjects. However, the same functionality can be implemented using a regular std::shared_ptr, and its little-known "sub-object pointer" feature, where the pointer can point to one thing, but actually delete something else when it goes out of scope. This patch reimplements SharedCluster using this feature -- SharedClusterPointer::GetObject now returns a std::shared_pointer which points to the ValueObject, but actually owns the whole cluster. The only change I needed to make here is that now the SharedCluster object needs to be created before the root ValueObject. This means that all private ValueObject constructors get a ClusterManager argument, and their static Create functions do the create-a-manager-and-pass-it-to-value-object dance. 2020-01-24[lldb][NFC] Fix all formatting errors in .cpp file headersRaphael Isemann
Summary: A *.cpp file header in LLDB (and in LLDB) should like this: ``` //===-- TestUtilities.cpp -------------------------------------------------===// ``` However in LLDB most of our source files have arbitrary changes to this format and these changes are spreading through LLDB as folks usually just use the existing source files as templates for their new files (most notably the unnecessary editor language indicator `-*- C++ -*-` is spreading and in every review someone is pointing out that this is wrong, resulting in people pointing out that this is done in the same way in other files). This patch removes most of these inconsistencies including the editor language indicators, all the different missing/additional '-' characters, files that center the file name, missing trailing `===//` (mostly caused by clang-format breaking the line). 2020-01-14[lldb] Don't defend against internal LLVM errors in IRInterpreterRaphael Isemann
Summary: Whenever we cast an LLVM instruction to one of its subclasses, we do a double check if the RTTI enum value actually allows us to cast the class. I don't see a way this can ever happen as even when LLVM's RTTI system has some corrupt internal state (which we probably should not test in the first place) we just reuse LLVM RTTI to do the second check. This also means that if we ever make an actual programming error in this function (e.g., have a enum value and then cast it to a different subclass), we just silently fall back to the JIT in our tests. We also can't test this code in any reasonable way. This removes the checks and uses `llvm::cast` instead which will raise a fatal error when casting fails. 2019-02-13Replace 'ap' with 'up' suffix in variable names. (NFC)Jonas Devlieghere
The `ap` suffix is a remnant of lldb's former use of auto pointers, before they got deprecated. Although all their uses were replaced by unique pointers, some variables still carried the suffix. In r353795 I removed another auto_ptr remnant, namely redundant calls to ::get for unique_pointers. Jim justly noted that this is a good opportunity to clean up the variable names as well. I went over all the changes to ensure my find-and-replace didn't have any undesired side-effects. I hope I didn't miss any, but if you end up at this commit doing a git blame on a weirdly named variable, please know that the change was unintentional. llvm-svn: 353912

Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM project under our new license, so you will see that the license headers include that license only. 2018-06-20IRInterpreter: fix sign extension of small types (pr37840)Pavel Labath
Sign-extension of small types (e.g. short) was not handled correctly. The reason for that was that when we were assigning the a value to the Scalar object, we would accidentally promote the type to int (even though the assignment code in AssignTypeToMatch tried to cast the value to the appropriate type, it would still invoke the "int" version of operator=). Instead, I use the APInt version of operator=, where the bitwidth is specified explicitly. Among other things, this allows us to fold the individual size cases into one. llvm-svn: 335114
