2021-08-05[lldb] Use a struct to pass function search options to Module::FindFunctionJonas Devlieghere
Rather than passing two booleans around, which is especially error prone with them being next to each other, use a struct with named fields instead. Differential revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D107295
2020-08-17[lldb] Add missing LLDB_REGISTER for GarbageCollectAllocatedModulesJonas Devlieghere

2020-08-17[lldb] Add SBModule::GarbageCollectAllocatedModules and clear modules after ↵Raphael Isemann
each test run Right now the only places in the SB API where lldb:: ModuleSP instances are destroyed are in SBDebugger::MemoryPressureDetected (where it's just attempted but not guaranteed) and in SBDebugger::DeleteTarget (which will be removed in D83933). Tests that directly create an lldb::ModuleSP and never create a target therefore currently leak lldb::Module instances. This triggers the sanity checks in lldbtest that make sure that the global module list is empty after a test. This patch adds SBModule::GarbageCollectAllocatedModules as an explicit way to clean orphaned lldb::ModuleSP instances. Also we now start calling this method at the end of each test run and move the sanity check behind that call to make this work. This way even tests that don't create targets can pass the sanity check. This fixes TestUnicodeSymbols.py when D83865 is applied (which makes that the sanity checks actually fail the test). 2020-06-12[lldb/Test] Assert that no targets or modules remain after a test completes.Jonas Devlieghere
The reproducer intentionally leak every object allocated during replay, which means that modules never get orphaned. If this were to happen for another reason, we might not be testing what we think we are. Assert that there are no targets left at the end of a test and that the global module cache is empty in the non-reproducer scenario. Differential revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D81612
2020-02-18[lldb][NFC] Make all CompilerDeclContext parameters references instead of ↵Raphael Isemann
pointers Summary: All of our lookup APIs either use `CompilerDeclContext &` or `CompilerDeclContext *` semi-randomly it seems. This leads to us constantly converting between those two types (and doing nullptr checks when going from pointer to reference). It also leads to the confusing situation where we have two possible ways to express that we don't have a CompilerDeclContex: either a nullptr or an invalid CompilerDeclContext (aka a default constructed CompilerDeclContext). This moves all APIs to use references and gets rid of all the nullptr checks and conversions. 2020-01-24[lldb][NFC] Fix all formatting errors in .cpp file headersRaphael Isemann
Summary: A *.cpp file header in LLDB (and in LLDB) should like this: ``` //===-- TestUtilities.cpp -------------------------------------------------===// ``` However in LLDB most of our source files have arbitrary changes to this format and these changes are spreading through LLDB as folks usually just use the existing source files as templates for their new files (most notably the unnecessary editor language indicator `-*- C++ -*-` is spreading and in every review someone is pointing out that this is wrong, resulting in people pointing out that this is done in the same way in other files). This patch removes most of these inconsistencies including the editor language indicators, all the different missing/additional '-' characters, files that center the file name, missing trailing `===//` (mostly caused by clang-format breaking the line). 2019-10-17Modernize the rest of the Find.* API (NFC)Adrian Prantl
This patch removes the size_t return value and the append parameter from the remainder of the Find.* functions in LLDB's internal API. As in the previous patches, this is motivated by the fact that these parameters aren't really used, and in the case of the append parameter were frequently implemented incorrectly. 2019-08-06SymbolVendor: Remove passthrough methodsPavel Labath
After the recent refactorings the SymbolVendor passthrough no longer serve any purpose. This patch removes those methods, and updates all callsites to go to the symbol file directly -- in most cases that just means calling GetSymbolFile()->foo() instead of GetSymbolVendor()->foo(). llvm-svn: 368001
2019-08-05Remove SymbolVendor::GetSymtabPavel Labath
Summary: This patch removes the GetSymtab method from the SymbolVendor, which is a no-op as it's implementation just forwards to the relevant SymbolFile. Instead it creates a Module::GetSymtab, which calls the SymbolFile method directly. All callers have been updated to use the Module method directly instead of a two phase GetSymbolVendor->GetSymtab search, which leads to reduced intentation in a lot of deeply nested code. 2019-04-03[Reproducers] Capture return values of functions returning by ptr/refJonas Devlieghere
For some reason I had convinced myself that functions returning by pointer or reference do not require recording their result. However, after further considering I don't see how that could work, at least not with the current implementation. Interestingly enough, the reproducer instrumentation already (mostly) accounts for this, though the lldb-instr tool did not. This patch adds the missing macros and updates the lldb-instr tool. 2019-03-11Add "operator bool" to SB APIsPavel Labath
Summary: Our python version of the SB API has (the python equivalent of) operator bool, but the C++ version doesn't. This is because our python operators are added by modify-python-lldb.py, which performs postprocessing on the swig-generated interface files. In this patch, I add the "operator bool" to all SB classes which have an IsValid method (which is the same logic used by modify-python-lldb.py). This way, we make the two interfaces more constent, and it allows us to rely on swig's automatic syntesis of python __nonzero__ methods instead of doing manual fixups. 2019-03-07[SBAPI] Log from record macroJonas Devlieghere
The current record macros already log the function being called. This patch extends the macros to also log their input arguments and removes explicit logging from the SB API. This might degrade the amount of information in some cases (because of smarter casts or efforts to log return values). However I think this is outweighed by the increased coverage and consistency. Furthermore, using the reproducer infrastructure, diagnosing bugs in the API layer should become much easier compared to relying on log messages. 2019-02-13Replace 'ap' with 'up' suffix in variable names. (NFC)Jonas Devlieghere
The `ap` suffix is a remnant of lldb's former use of auto pointers, before they got deprecated. Although all their uses were replaced by unique pointers, some variables still carried the suffix. In r353795 I removed another auto_ptr remnant, namely redundant calls to ::get for unique_pointers. Jim justly noted that this is a good opportunity to clean up the variable names as well. I went over all the changes to ensure my find-and-replace didn't have any undesired side-effects. I hope I didn't miss any, but if you end up at this commit doing a git blame on a weirdly named variable, please know that the change was unintentional. llvm-svn: 353912
2019-01-19Update the file headers across all of the LLVM projects in the monorepoChandler Carruth
to reflect the new license. We understand that people may be surprised that we're moving the header entirely to discuss the new license. We checked this carefully with the Foundation's lawyer and we believe this is the correct approach. Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM project under our new license, so you will see that the license headers include that license only. Some of our contributors have contributed code under our old license, and accordingly, we have retained a copy of our old license notice in the top-level files in each project and repository. llvm-svn: 351636
2019-01-14[SymbolFile] Remove SymbolContext parameter from FindTypes.Zachary Turner
This parameter was only ever used with the Module set, and since a SymbolFile is tied to a module, the parameter turns out to be entirely unnecessary. Furthermore, it doesn't make a lot of sense to ask a caller to ask SymbolFile which is tied to Module X to find types for Module Y, but that possibility was open with the previous interface. By removing this parameter from the API, it makes it harder to use incorrectly as well as easier for an implementor to understand what it needs to do. llvm-svn: 351133
2018-12-11Rename ObjectFile::GetHeaderAddress to GetBaseAddressPavel Labath
Summary: This function was named such because in the case of MachO files, the mach header is located at this address. However all (most?) usages of this function were not interested in that fact, but the fact that this address is used as the base address for expressing various relative addresses in the object file. For other object file formats, this name is not appropriate (and it's probably the reason why this function was not implemented in these classes). In the ELF case the ELF header will usually end up at this address, but this is a result of the linker optimizing the file layout and not a requirement of the spec. For COFF files, I believe the is no header located at this address either. 2018-11-30[Target] Do not skip a stop on a breakpoint if a plan was completedAleksandr Urakov
Summary: This patch fixes the next situation. On Windows clang-cl makes no stub before the main function, so the main function is located exactly on module entry point. May be it is the same on other platforms. So consider the following sequence: - set a breakpoint on main and stop there; - try to evaluate expression, which requires a code execution on the debuggee side. Such an execution always returns to the module entry, and the plan waits for it there; - the plan understands that it is complete now and removes its breakpoint. But the breakpoint site is still there, because we also have a breakpoint on entry; - StopInfo analyzes a situation. It sees that we have stopped on the breakpoint site, and it sees that the breakpoint site has owners, and no one logical breakpoint is internal (because the plan is already completed and it have removed its breakpoint); - StopInfo thinks that it's a user breakpoint and skips it to avoid recursive computations; - the program continues. So in this situation the program continues without a stop right after the expression evaluation. To avoid this an additional check that the plan was completed was added. 2018-10-25Don't type-erase the SymbolContextItem enumeration.Zachary Turner
When we get the `resolve_scope` parameter from the SB API, it's a `uint32_t`. We then pass it through all of LLDB this way, as a uint32. This is unfortunate, because it means the user of an API never actually knows what they're dealing with. We can call it something like `resolve_scope` and have comments saying "this is a value from the `SymbolContextItem` enumeration, but it makes more sense to just have it actually *be* the correct type in the actual C++ type system to begin with. This way the person reading the code just knows what it is. The reason to use integers instead of enumerations for flags is because when you do bitwise operations on enumerations they get promoted to integers, so it makes it tedious to constantly be casting them back to the enumeration types, so I've introduced a macro to make this happen magically. By writing LLDB_MARK_AS_BITMASK_ENUM after defining an enumeration, it will define overloaded operators so that the returned type will be the original enum. This should address all the mechanical issues surrounding using rich enum types directly. This way, we get a better debugger experience, and new users to the codebase can get more easily acquainted with the codebase because their IDE features can help them understand what the types mean. *** to conform to clang-format’s LLVM style. This kind of mass change has *** two obvious implications: Firstly, merging this particular commit into a downstream fork may be a huge effort. Alternatively, it may be worth merging all changes up to this commit, performing the same reformatting operation locally, and then discarding the merge for this particular commit. The commands used to accomplish this reformatting were as follows (with current working directory as the root of the repository): find . \( -iname "*.c" -or -iname "*.cpp" -or -iname "*.h" -or -iname "*.mm" \) -exec clang-format -i {} + find . -iname "*.py" -exec autopep8 --in-place --aggressive --aggressive {} + ; The version of clang-format used was 3.9.0, and autopep8 was 1.2.4. 2016-02-10Now that SymbolFileDWARF supports having types in completely separate .pcm ↵Greg Clayton
file with "-fmodules -gmodules", each SymbolFileDWARF can reference module DWARF info by looking in other DWARF files. Then if you have 1000 .o files that each reference one or more .pcm files in their debug info, a simple Module::FindTypes(...) call can end up searching the same .pcm file over and over and over. Now all internal FindTypes methods in classes (ModuleList, Module, SymbolFile) now take an extra argument: llvm::DenseSet<lldb_private::SymbolFile *> &searched_symbol_files Each time a SymbolFile::FindTypes() is called, it needs to check the searched_symbol_files list to make sure it hasn't already been asked to find the type and return immediately if it has been checked. This will stop circular dependencies from also crashing LLDB during type queries. This has proven to be an issue when debugging large applications on MacOSX that use DWARF in .o files. <rdar://problem/24581488> llvm-svn: 260434

2015-02-11Fixed SBModule::GetUUIDString() to not use a static character buffer.Greg Clayton
Rules for returning "const char *" from functions in the public lldb::SB* API are that you must constify the string using "ConstString(cstr).GetCString()" and return that. This puts the string into a string pool that never goes away. This is only when there is nothing that can hold onto the string. It is OK to specify that a string value lives as long as its SB class counterpart, but this should be made clear in the API if this is done. Many classes already constify their strings (symbol mangled and demangled names, variable names, type names, etc), so be sure to verify you string isn't already constified before you re-constify it. It won't do any harm to re-constify it, it will just cause you a little performance by having to rehash the string. llvm-svn: 228867

2014-01-23Added the ability to get the type that a typedef points to via:Greg Clayton
SBType SBType::GetTypedefedType(); Also added the ability to get a type by type ID from a SBModule: SBType SBModule::GetTypeByID (lldb::user_id_t uid); llvm-svn: 199939
2013-11-20Expose SBPlatform through the public API.Greg Clayton
Example code: remote_platform = lldb.SBPlatform("remote-macosx"); remote_platform.SetWorkingDirectory("/private/tmp") debugger.SetSelectedPlatform(remote_platform) connect_options = lldb.SBPlatformConnectOptions("connect://localhost:1111"); err = remote_platform.ConnectRemote(connect_options) if err.Success(): print >> result, 'Connected to remote platform:' print >> result, 'hostname: %s' % (remote_platform.GetHostname()) src = lldb.SBFileSpec("/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/SharedFrameworks/LLDB.framework", False) dst = lldb.SBFileSpec() # copy src to platform working directory since "dst" is empty err = remote_platform.Install(src, dst); if err.Success(): print >> result, '%s installed successfully' % (src) else: print >> result, 'error: failed to install "%s": %s' % (src, err) Implemented many calls needed in lldb-platform to be able to install a directory that contains symlinks, file and directories. The remote lldb-platform can now launch GDB servers on the remote system so that remote debugging can be spawned through the remote platform when connected to a remote platform. The API in SBPlatform is subject to change and will be getting many new functions. llvm-svn: 195273
2013-07-11Huge change to clean up types.Greg Clayton
A long time ago we start with clang types that were created by the symbol files and there were many functions in lldb_private::ClangASTContext that helped. Later we create ClangASTType which contains a clang::ASTContext and an opauque QualType, but we didn't switch over to fully using it. There were a lot of places where we would pass around a raw clang_type_t and also pass along a clang::ASTContext separately. This left room for error. This checkin change all type code over to use ClangASTType everywhere and I cleaned up the interfaces quite a bit. Any code that was in ClangASTContext that was type related, was moved over into ClangASTType. All code that used these types was switched over to use all of the new goodness. llvm-svn: 186130
2013-07-10Cleanup on the unified section list changes. Main changes are:Greg Clayton
- ObjectFile::GetSymtab() and ObjectFile::ClearSymtab() no longer takes any flags - Module coordinates with the object files and contain a unified section list so that object file and symbol file can share sections when they need to, yet contain their own sections. Other cleanups: - Fixed Symbol::GetByteSize() to not have the symbol table compute the byte sizes on the fly - Modified the ObjectFileMachO class to compute symbol sizes all at once efficiently - Modified the Symtab class to store a file address lookup table for more efficient lookups - Removed Section::Finalize() and SectionList::Finalize() as they did nothing - Improved performance of the detection of symbol files that have debug maps by excluding stripped files and core files, debug files, object files and stubs - Added the ability to tell if an ObjectFile has been stripped with ObjectFile::IsStripped() (used this for the above performance improvement) llvm-svn: 185990
2013-07-08Added a way to extract the module specifications from a file. A module ↵Greg Clayton
specification is information that is required to describe a module (executable, shared library, object file, ect). This information includes host path, platform path (remote path), symbol file path, UUID, object name (for objects in .a files for example you could have an object name of "foo.o"), and target triple. Module specification can be used to create a module, or used to add a module to a target. A list of module specifications can be used to enumerate objects in container objects (like universal mach files and BSD archive files). There are two new classes: lldb::SBModuleSpec lldb::SBModuleSpecList The SBModuleSpec wraps up a lldb_private::ModuleSpec, and SBModuleSpecList wraps up a lldb_private::ModuleSpecList. llvm-svn: 185877
